So - back to Valinor. We last saw these guys in #256, just after the Kinslaying of Alqualondë.

The reactions of Vána and Aulë here are based on the Book of Lost Tales version of the story, which I'm going to be drawing on for extra details. Aulë is mad at the Noldor because he's taken their rebellion as a personal slight against him, after all the ( Read more... )

Wow, Vána is out-crying Nienna.

The flower in her hand is kept alive by her angelic light, I guess. :-)

Poor Vana, she was so central to the older versions of the mythology, and then almost completely vanished from it.

I know she was heavily involved with the Trees (both their creation, and making a replacement for them) but what else did she do of note?

Well pretty much that, the Sun was even called the "Lamp of Vana" (or something similar) in her honor because she created it and sacrificed her golden hair so it could be woven into a sail for the sunship.
She was howeve also one of the first two Valar to propose that the Elves should be invited to Valinor (together with Yavanna)
And she gave Orome some of her hair (again) so he could create one of the three remaining paths to Valinor out of it.
