Quality Time

Another rough night of coughing but all woke in good spirits. Fresh bread for breakfast with leftover salmon and lots of coffee. Lazing with new toys, mainly the noisy ones. More family jamming, me on the recorder again, Linnea on drums and Ian swapping between the whistle and the keyboard. Dropped her off at Mark's after nine, then a little bit of quiet time together. Ian poked at Ordy and I finished marking seem allowances on all the pieces of a corset mockup. If it was a garment with more give I'd eyeball it, heck, even if I had a sewing machine I would just estimate but when I'm hand sewing I get really caught up in spacing/hiding stiches and loose track of straight lines and what I'm doing.

Then followed a lovely day in the sales. We found a great little scooter for Linnea, as planned our main present to her. It's purple and green and has four wheels that can be readjusted to three and then two. The first two pairs of trousers I picked up fit perfectly (unheard of! And how happy was I that I hadn't put on any weight over the holidays!) and were under £10 each (one pain was 8 marked down from 25!), black jeans and work trousers - exactly what was on my list to buy with Christmas money. Ian hit Game while I was doing that and then we went for lunch and ate way too many onion rings with mayo and I had a Nutella milkshake. Then we bought chocolate for Tez, picked up some more stuff in Lush (was hoping they were doing £50 for £15 but nay) which was fairly bare on the shelves, swung by Waterstones and then called it a day and walked home in the brisk wind. Ground is pretty dry and I saw a lot of joggers so I may have no excuse tomorrow! I expected it to be overcrowded and awful like when Linnea and I went in last year but there is a world of difference shopping without a toddler and with a loved-up, helpful boyfriend instead and being super lucky with the three important purchases right off the bat.

Still have quite a bit of gift money left, some of which I am about to spend on long-coveted waterproof socks and a lot of which I am going to set aside until I can think of things that the two of us need and will use often as well as want.

Ian's just picking up Linnea and dinner in one go, and I am sitting here feeling very, VERY spoiled and like I've had a lot longer than 3 days off work. I've been a little worried about her all day as last night her cough was incessant and she puked again this morning but she's had two long naps and lots of oranges today and is still smiling so it's ok.

jul, ian
