Today I posted my Veterans Day poster on the Veterans Leadership Network at work. I wrote that from the heart last year while drawing on my experiences as a soldier and someone who has worked at the Indianapolis VA. I have blown taps to many times and I have had to present a friend's daughter her husband's flag. I've always said that was the hardest duty I ever had to perform.
I got some rather blunt, almost harsh comments. One comment was that "remember" is to passive. Maybe for this society, but where I come from leading with "remember" means pay attention, this is important. Probably because so much of our family history is passed verbally in the form of stories. The paragraph was suppose to invoke an emotional response because that is where it originated.
Some people just don't get it.
