Wow, I feel violated...

So, I got the call last night, around 6pmish- they found my car. In Oakland. And arrested the punkass who had it. Some guy named Jose Navaro, or something similar. I'm told I have to go to the Hayward PD to pick up a vehicle release form, then go to the Oakland PD to pick up my car. So it's 7ish by the time we get to Oakland, where the officer condescendingly proceeds to tell me that I have to get a vehicle release form from Oakland PD's records office, and they closed at 2pm. So I get up this morning, and after a lot of transportation arrangements falling through, finally made it to Oakland, where they dicked around for hours before telling me that I didn't need to be there at all. Since I already had a vehicle release from Hayward PD, all I had to do was go to the tow yard to pick up my car. Yeah, apparently the prick of a cop at the desk last night was too full of himself to give me that lovely bit of information. *grumbling* And nevermind the fact that the Hayward PD vehicle release form said to go to Oakland PD to get my car, so I had no idea which tow yard had my car, much less where said tow yard was located... *rolls eyes* After finally prying the address from them right before they closed for the day, we go find the tow yard.
It is massive, and the guy who was supposed to take me to my car spend 20 minutes looking for it after trying to show me several other cars that weren't mine and looked nothing like mine. Finally found it, at the back of the tow yard, behind several beat up looking cars. For having just been found the night before, they sure buried it pretty damn fast...
So. Whoever the fucker was that took it, he apparently had a key that fit my car. He was able to start the car without tearing apart the electronics involved, and he opened the trunk without busting it. Some of my clothes were shoved in the trunk, but the tophat was missing. The cages were gone, as were all of the pet food from the trunk with the exception of one bucket of NutriBerries that were treats for the rats. The dvds were all missing, as was the TKT cd, and abditus' book, and the car registration, and the two rental movies. He did leave an empty bottle of 40 in the backseat, and a couple of pill bottles on the front floorboards. (Vicoden, and something I couldn't figure out but said something about anti-inflammatory?) Not to mention a (probably equally stolen) car stereo on the backseat, and a dvd of Finding Nemo (sans case) and some random burned disc. He also managed to crack the windshield, bust the rearview mirror, and bend the shit out of the gas tank door, and removed a couple panels inside the car. I did find the ashtray again, but the keycard for the ranch gate that was in it seems to be missing unless it's on the floor shoved under a seat. I will do a more thorough search in daylight when I'm not late for work. He also left random busted stuff in the car, and a beanie, dirty paper plates, empty food wrappers, and what looks like the wheels from either a training bike or a stroller.
I guess I should be elated that they found it, but, eh.
Just looking at my car, the stuff missing, and the things that weren't mine sitting in it makes me feel violated somehow. Some random stranger taking my shit and making himself at home at my expense. Just makes me ill. I haven't felt as vulnerable as this since... but I still won't talk about that, that's still a raw point that very few know about...
Uhm...
Yeah...
Anyhoo...
So, now I'm at work. Albeit due to getting jerked around all morning/afternoon, I was nearly 5 hours late. And got pulled over by a cop a few blocks from work, because the plates on my car were still registered as stolen. Loooovely. So whatever cop logged it yesterday when they picked it up, never bothered to clear it from their system. Greeeaaaat. I foresee this continuing to be a problem for a while...
But hey, at least I have my car back, right?

transportation, life
