Fanmix: If This Is a RomCom (Kill the Director) (Real People - Ryan Stiles/Colin Mochrie)
New fanmix. This took me aaaages to make. Layout very much inspired by the beautiful fanmix layouts recycledinspace always uses.
( ABOUT ) After reading so many depressing Colin & Ryan fanfics the last few weeks that I wanted to throw myself off a cliff, I needed something to cheer me up. I created a playlist for all my RyCol feelings, but then it turned out that all the music I put on there was just as depressing, if not more so. It's interesting considering what joy these two bring to us fans, they still fill me (and obviously everyone else) with a ton of angst. I started to make an angsty fanmix for a waywardmixes challenge, but I scrapped that idea eventually and went in favour of a different fandom/character/ship. But I did sit down and worked on my happy mix instead. This is the, very upbeat, result. It's AU for obvious reasons.
( cont'd. ) But there's a story here. This mix tries to cover their whole timeline (which means it jumps a lot tbh) from their first meeting in the late 70s, the immediate spark between them that kept them going right through Brit & US WLIIA from start to finish, but also including the break that happened when Ryan stopped seing Colin. So yes, there is a break-up song on here, wifey break-up is mentioned as well, however this mix ends on a positive note because I want them to have their happy-end and because IAG didn't really deliver on the RyCol front /still bitter.
And yes I am aware that I'm a tinhat; there's no beating around the bush here. I have a whole head-canon for how their relationship progressed and later regressed, but this I need for my super depressing Ryan on Colin fanmix that I will make eventually.
The 12 songs are all upbeat. I didn't use any dubstep although I tried (that didn't stop me from putting some electronica on it anyway), but I hope it still makes you want to dance in your chair and also sing along. There is some alternative folksy stuff on here too (lol yeah, Taylor Swift too, because I kinda want to put all the songs from Red on fanmixes). All in all it's easy listening. Title was taken from The Wombat's song with the same name.
