Blue Man Group

Jacqueline and Andy were planning to take Andy’s family to Blue Man for Xmas. The parents are both dealing with health issues at the moment so we were asked to take their spots. Patrick had taken me to the show when we first started dating.

We went out for Chinese in Boston and then over to the theatre. Andy’s brother Ryan and his girlfriend Martha were going to be late, but they actually made it in time.

I find the show to be very original, though it may be the only piece of performance art that I’ve seen. They use rock music, lighting, technology, sensory overload, paint, food, video, audience participation, and tubes to present a highly entertaining show. The blue men are like a combination of alien and trained animal. They never speak but still manage to transfer tons of data.

Things I remembered which were still used: splattering colored drums, toilet paper, marshmallow mouth catching, spit art, Twinkies and Captain Crunch, competition for eye focus, taxi and backstage video. Lots of other things were tweaked and updated and a bunch still felt fresh to me. The theatre was larger and the audience was younger.

We missed out on a L.I. party, but were glad for the opportunity to see it again.
