part i.
Character name: Dr. Rex Lewis
Fandom: GI Joe: Rise of Cobra
Species (vampire, werewolf, what have you): Human
Character powers: N/A. He has no super powers, but he is a programming/engineering genius with a specialty in neuroengineering and a penchant for mad science. This does give him great versatility in scientific endeavors, but without technology, he's a dead standard human.
part ii.
1.) Is it acceptable for your character to be mind-controlled or persuaded? How susceptible are they to mind control, hypnotism, or suggestion?
Rex is an average human, so he's as susceptible to mind control as any other human would be. He is incredibly stubborn and cerebral, however, so hypnotism/suggestion is less likely to work on him unless it's magical, supernatural or scientific in origin.
2.) Is it acceptable for your character to have their mind read? Does this include traumatic memories? What is their mind like (disturbing, orderly, joyful, surprisingly empty, etc.)? If the character has psychic walls or preventative measures against psychic interference, please explain.
Mind reading is fine (again, normal human, wouldn't have defenses against it), but be prepared for traumatic, violent and disturbing memories containing things like: combat/warfare situations (Rex was a combat medic in Iraq, so he likely saw disturbing things), getting caught in an explosion (leading to second and third-degree burns covering a significant percentage of his body), long and painful recuperation from severe injury, gruesome scientific experiments on human test subjects (BODY HORRRROR), sexual assault/rape, stalking/abuse, and various acts of violence-- BASICALLY, ask for details if you actually want to do this.
Although Rex tries to put on a very controlled or friendly demeanor, if he's set off, his mind can be a disorganized maelstrom of emotions, with anger being at the forefront. Other times (like when he's doing science projects), it's highly focused and organized. It's not a very pleasant mind to be in even at the best of times. Contact for details should this ever come up in game, because his state of mind at any given time factors heavily into what kind of "impression" a telepath/psychic/etc would read.
3.) Are thoughts mentioned in narration acceptable for a telepath to pick up?
Yup.
4.) What about emotions, in the case of an empath? What sort of general emotional reading would such a character receive from yours?
That's fine. And what emotional reading a character would get is highly dependent on the particular situation, although generally speaking, anger, smugness, superiority and very little empathy are safe bets for an empath to find.
5.) Are there any aspects of your character's mind, emotions, or memories you would like to be picked up, mentioned, or used in character? Conversely, is there anything that should not be noticed, or at least never mentioned?
I'm fine with just about anything, provided we talk first!
part iii.
1.) Physically speaking, what stands out about your character? Imposing size? Physical scarring? Tattoos?
At the moment? Nothing except for a propensity to wear black and a tendency to wear gloves. That's when he's in "mad science" mode, however. He'll likely appear to be a very average, slight man in his 20s in most day-to-day situations.
2.) Is your character immune to any of the following: poisons, chemical agents, telekinetic influence, radiation, or types of illnesses?
Nope, he's immune to nothing.
3.) Is your character physiologically different from a human in any way? This can include their blood, skin, hair, et cetera being made up of something unusual or simply differing in construction and durability.
Completely and 100% human. SO BORING, REX.
4.) Are you amenable to having your character be harmed in any way? How far are you comfortable with injury to you character going? Does this include being fed on by vampires, willingly or unwillingly?
Talk to me first. Injuries, I'm generally okay with, but being fed on by vampires unwillingly is a highly triggering situation for him, and while I won't rule anything out 100%, it does need to be carefully discussed before it happens, because it's very likely to snowball into something worse than a one-off feeding if not handled properly (Rex holds grudges for eternity, and he will probably try to have any vampire that feeds on him unwillingly killed).
5.) Is it acceptable for other characters with abilities of shapeshifting or disguise to imitate your character? Does this include ability mimicry?
Again, talk to me first. I'm okay with it in theory, but sometimes these things venture into territory that's highly uncomfortable for me.
part iv.
1.) Can your character's presence or aura be noticed by other characters, and how would it look/feel to them? How would it manifest to a character with no supernatural abilities, if at all?
Case-by-case basis, because I don't really know how these things work in a sort of general, universal sense. So, it depends on if/how your character perceives auras, since Rex doesn't supernaturally project anything.
2.) Can your character be affected by magic spells and curses?
Yup. He has no immunity to spells or curses.
3.) Can your character be affected by sin and corruption, and be tempted toward expressing their darker urges (of whatever flavor)?
Very easily. His "fatal flaw" is that he gives in to temptation at the expense of everything else in his life.
4. What sort of sins is the character prone toward, and how might they best be tempted, if you are interested in such an event?
If we're going with sins of the "seven deadly" variety, Rex is prideful, envious and wrathful. He's also self-centered, two-faced, ambitious to a fault, hypocritical and has difficulty feeling empathy for others. Rex is most easily tempted by science, so if you dangle promises of advanced technology, revolutionary projects/inventions, or other science-y things to pique his curiosity, he'll usually come running. He's also more likely to listen to/follow older, charismatic, worldly men (but he's also likely to turn on them when he gets too big for his britches :V).
5.) Are you amenable to the character receiving prophetic visions, including as part of a plot?
Sure, but he puts no stock in magic or supernatural things, so prophetic visions/dreams are likely to be brushed off by him, unless they're particularly compelling or disturbing.
part v.
1.) Is threadjacking allowed? Under what circumstances?
Yeah, threadjacking's totally fine. However, if the threadjacking turns private between two non-Rex parties, I'd like it to be moved elsewhere after about 10 or so comments, just to save my inbox! I got a roughly 100 comment private threadjack once, okay :c
2.) Is it acceptable for canonmates that are updated further than yours to inform your character of events yours has not yet experienced?
Yeah, that's fine.
3.) Are there triggering or upsetting topics you would like other characters to avoid mentioning to yours for the sake of continued comfort (racist words, homophobia, self-injury, etc.)?
I'm not going to bar any topics, because I prefer to let things flow as they may (and because my own triggers are hard to set off except in very particular circumstances), HOWEVER, I will warn you that the following are triggering topics and can (but don't always) set Rex off, so you may want to get in contact with me if they come up in a thread with him: rape, sexual assault, stalking, kidnapping, abuse. Conversations about vampires can trigger him, too, but are much less likely to unless it's paired with any of the other triggering topics.
4.) Are there any additions you would like us to make to this survey?
None that I can think of rn.
