Oh, and he's wearing his standard black lab coat outfit, minus the gloves. When he speaks, his voice isn't as raspy as it was, but it's still a little rough. Like Arthur with a slight sore throat or something.]
Ah, it would appear I missed our monthly arrival of newcomers. Forgive the belated welcoming; I was... indisposed for a while. [SMILE. Rex is trying this whole... "normal" thing. It's not working.] I'm Dr. Rex Lewis. [Slight shrug.] Inmate, as we all know how important our labels are. [But, more importantly!] And this is Tiamat. Her arrival upon the Barge wasn't so different from our own. She was simply... here one day, origins unknown. Nobody requested her, as far as I can tell. [He gently shifts the snake so that he can look at her face.] Just another traveler boarding the Barge. [A faint, fond smile.] I was called in to remove her from somebody's cabin. To think, what could have happened to her if it was anybody else...
[He sets the snake down again, and she begins to slither up to explore the crook of Rex's neck.]
People are so afraid of what they don't understand. Brutal predators though they are, the Eastern Indigo snake is mostly harmless to humans. Their bite will hurt, of course, but they aren't venomous. And they're really quite docile. Unless you're prey. [He strokes his fingers along the scales.] Contrary to what one may expect, they're soft to the touch. And yet... you can feel hard muscles working, just below the scales, used not only for locomotion, but also for capturing its prey. The Eastern Indigo prefers to grab its meal and bash it against hard surfaces until it's overpowered and ready for consumption. Watching it, it comes across as a somewhat violent dance.
[He makes a thoughtful noise.]
Elegance, power, brutality, beauty. The complete package. [Rex, stop using the words "hard muscle" and "package" when talking about a phallic symbol, you clueless dweeb.] I wonder, how many of you are capable of embodying these characteristics, yourselves. [He laughs ~lightly~] Simple curiosity, nothing sinister. I've been cooped up for quite some time, and I could use some stimulating conversation, after all. It keeps one from going insane.
[Smiling again. He looks normal, except for the fact that he's just finished talking about how beautiful Eastern Indigo snakes are when they beat things to death.]
