[Rex is cam whoring it up today with his emerald tree boa which, due to its age, is still not emerald. It's a vibrant orange. He's sitting at his desk, while the snake is slithering around his shoulders, exploring this fascinating man-shaped tree.]
Now that he's better... acclimated to the Barge, I'd like to introduce you to Ajax. Don't let the coloring mislead you; he's an emerald tree boa. [He turns to look at the snake around his shoulders.] Still a juvenile. The ontogenetic coloration will set in after several more months, after which, he'll fully live up to the species name.
[He gently moves the snake so that it settles along one arm, slowly coiling around his wrist into a glorious ball of snake.]
Notice the head. The way it's shaped... The actual name for the species is corallus caninus. [He looks at the camera and smiles. COME ON, FELLOW NERDS, IT'S AMUSING.] Dog-like. See, the angle of the snout... [He moves the snake closer to the camera FOR ALL TO SEE.] The teeth, too-- regrettably, I can't show you at the moment-- resemble that of a dog's. It's quite a unique look for a snake.
[He lowers his arm so that the snake isn't at the forefront of the shot.]
An arboreal species, the emerald tree boa remains inert for days, coiled along the same branch, until it strikes. Herpetologists thought, for ages, that the snake's diet primarily consisted of birds. However, the species typically eats small mammals with... [Casual wave of the hand.] the occasional amphibian. Some birds, too, not to mention smaller lizards. The boa waits for its prey, above the ground, and once an unfortunate meal crosses its path, it descends, gripping the animal with its front fangs in order to pull it upwards and asphyxiate it.
[He looks at his wee snake fondly.] It's quite a sight to behold. Perhaps one day I'll have footage of it to share with the rest of you.
[THE END. He clicks the video off.]
[Private to Amanda]
I have something you could use.
[Private to the Doctor (Seventh)]
Could you tell me more about this mental block you mentioned?
[Private to Narvin]
Are you taking a break from the project? [That's Rex's way of going: WHY HAVEN'T YOU BEEN HERE TO LET ME INTO THE LAAAAAAB :CCCC He doesn't know about the Una fiasco.]
[OOC: I was going to link to a video of an emerald tree boa eating, for your entertainment, BUT THEY'RE ALL LONG AND SET TO TECHNO.]
