Identity Theft / Plagiarism

Nov 18, 2009 14:28

I've discovered kind of a weird case on the Wonderful World of Makebelieve fanfic site. Specifically this-- http://www.squidge.org/peja/cgi-bin/viewstory.php?sid=42927

Now, if you go there, you'll see the author listed as SGAtlantisLight and the story pretty much as published back in 2006 in LJ (link below). The thing is, I didn't post it. Someone else has apparently signed up on the site as me and posted this fic (and only this fic, which seems a little odd, given that I'd hardly qualify it as my best work or anything). I've written the site maintainer using their contact form:

"Hi. I'm SGAtlantisLight. I ran across one of my stories on your site. It was published in 2006 on Livejournal-- http://sgatlantislight.livejournal.com/49945.html . Apparently, while I didn't know it, I have somehow become a member of your site with an email address not my own. I don't know who is out here claiming to be me, but it's not me. I'd appreciate your assistance in rectifying this case of plagiarism/identity theft. Thanks."

I just did this, so it's not like I need someone to jump on this right the heck now or anything, but I thought it might be worthwhile for other authors to check and see if they, too, have suddenly joined this site while they weren't looking.
