Report by fishinwhite regarding Flame011011/nightmarerider in the Harry Potter fandom

Jul 31, 2011 20:04

The original report can be read here: fishinwhite

Flame011011 id: 2741371 has since changed their name to nightmarerider id: 2741371 the profile is here: Nightmarerider I contacted nightmarerider through fanfic and she/he claimed that she/he had 'uploaded the story for a friend while they were on holiday' and that the fanfiction account was not theirs.

The original story by Bexis1 is here: harry Potter and the fifth element

The story by nightmarerider 'the fifth element' was removed from fanfic a few days after I contacted nightmarerider. A comparison of screencaps and the original story proved beyond reasonable doubt that 'the fifth element' was a copy of Bexis1's story.

After checking through the profile, three further stories were discovered to be suspect:

Growing up to fast ~nightmarerider growing up to fast

"During the train ride back from Hogwarts, Harry had almost pushed the terrible events and painful memories of the end of the Tri-Wizard Tournament out of his mind. Setting in the car playing Exploding Snaps with Ron, Fred, and George made things just seem like any normal start of summer trip. Then, seeing how Mr. & Mrs. Weasly greeted their children and the extremely long hug Mrs. Weasly gave to Harry had brought him back to reality. Even Hermione had done something very unusual and kissed him on the cheek before leaving. Things were never going to be the same again. Voldemort was back and Cedric was dead. Harry had barely been able escape with Cedric's body and return to Voldemort. If it wasn't for the ghostly images of Cedric and his parents who were the last people Voldemort killed coming out of his wand and helping him, Harry wouldn't have been able to reach the portkey and return to Hogwarts. Most of the students had stayed away from Harry after this and seemed to think that he was responsible for Cedric's death. Harry really didn't care much what most of the students thought, but when he saw how devastated Cho Chang was; it really bothered him a lot."

The two paragraphs are identical as is the rest of the story.

Harry and the Guardian by nightmarerider harry potter and the guardian

The young twenty-six year old man stood in the King's Cross Station awaiting the arrival of the number 675 train at platform number 17. This was the first time in his life that he had come to this station to meet a Muggle coming on a Muggle transport, and it felt odd to him. He was dressed in his usual Muggle style clothing but still stood out due to his scarred, but well healed, face. He glanced back down at the edition of The Daily Prophet that he held in his hands, the Prophet was still honoring the late Albus Dumbledore even though it had been several days after his demise at the hands of Severus Snape.

"The dog" the man muttered under his breath, "after all that Albus did for him he repays him by stabbing him in the back and murdering him…typical Death Eater."

Absolutely identical in every way.

There is also a third story on the profile 'hard to get' hard to get

She was on the train, looking at the rain falling heavily on the window. She was a stranger here; she did not want to be here.

She felt her best friend's stare on her. She knew why she was so worried about her. She has been annoyingly quiet through the entire trip, even while they changed to their robes. Within ten minutes they would arrive. Soon... Soon, I'll meet my home for the rest of this year... she thought bitterly. She hated being restrained to one place. She needed to be free, to walk around...

"Iris?" Ten finally asked. Her friend wasn't normal, not at all. If Iris was quiet, she was angry. She also knew the reason why she was that angry. Iris was an independent girl, not used to go to private schools or twist her attitude to obey the rules. No. Her family had soon discovered she was not a cute little child, and put her into an abbey. Typical... Said abbey happened to keep witches and wizards at a tender age to train them into Dark Arts teaching. It was when Albus Dumbledore found out. He helped her get her out of there when she was eleven, but the damage was done. Iris never returned to normal again, just a shadow of the little curious girl she once was. For five years she learned everything about Magic a witch her age should, living in Ten's house. Hogwarts' teachers came everyday to help her. As the sixth year approached, Dumbledore thought it would be time for her to join the school community, for her to socialize more. She was already sorted to Slytherin House, like herself. And here she was.

Nightmarerider has got into the habit of taking stories that haven't been updated in a while and 'adopting' them as his/her own.

Bexis1, DarkHiems-Hime, StevenA and Sloth have been contacted.

Nightmarerider will be added to the list of known plagiarists.
