Her back was up against a nearby wall with her arms crossed over her chest as she listened to Garrus speak. The way he was talking and pacing back and forth, made it quite obvious to the commander that he was nervous, but she believed in him. Not so easy is it, Garrus?

Pushing off the wall, Shepard approached Garrus, a faint grin tugging at her lips. Rolling her shoulders, she shifted to the side to glance at the other teams. Okay so maybe she did miss being in command, a lot but this wasn't about that. This was about saving Fox and Shepard was one hundred percent focused on the task at hand. Nothing was about to break her confidence in rescuing him.

"I'm ready to go whenever the rest of you are."

"Locked and loaded." Not literally; the expression was an antique from an age before laser weaponry. But he was clearly ready to roll, with a blaster pistol in hand and a pulse rifle slung over one shoulder just in case the action heated up.

Despite being a former squadron commander himself, Bill had no problem with taking orders instead of giving them. That didn't bother him about the team. If anything did, it was the odd company; namely, one Wolf O'Donnell. The Star Wolf Team and the Cornerian Defense Force had never been the closest of friends, so being on the same side as him felt... wrong, to put it simply.

But this was no time to be picky about his teammates, not when Fox's head was about to roll. Those misgivings would have to be ignored until the objective was completed.

Wolf nodded, his stun pistol at his side and his laser blaster on his back. He never thought this would actually happen again but it was. Here he was, Wolf O'Donnell, coming to the rescue of Fox McCloud. Last time it had been against a common foe, this time it was to save the pup leader. And to make things even more complicated, that Bill was here. He didn't feel any better working with a member of the Cornerian Defense Force, especially after what had happened during that war.

But if he was willing to let it go and work with him, then he would too...for now.

"Ready when you give the order."

Seconds hung in the air as Garrus scanned the small, ragtag group gathered before him. If any equipment was damaged, scuffed, or unbalanced, or if there were any hints of morale weakening at this dire time, it wouldn't escape his intense, scrutinizing analysis. Over his left eye, his visor took in as much information as needed, the soft blue light blipping every few seconds as it calculated meticulously. When his eyes locked onto Shepard, his commander (no matter what she said), they lingered uneasily. She should be leading. Not him. But letting her down simply wasn't an option, if he somehow managed to screw up that badly, even if they managed to rescue McCloud (also a single option) the mission would still be considered a failure, albeit more on a personal front ( ... )

"Got it." Shepard muttered back over her radio, barely above a whisper. Even with Garrus saying that lethal force wasn't necessary but it may need to happen, caused Shepard to hope that there would another option instead of the lethal action. When it came down to it, Shepard preferred violence not being the answer- there were other ways to approach situations and Shepard wished more civilians understood that. Shepard's expectations were centered on some of the workers not becoming stubborn and preferring to escape rather than trying to be a "hero". She wasn't going to rely completely on that happening, but hey, she was trying to stay positive ( ... )

"Right. Shoot to stun," Bill confirmed in a low voice. There was a reason he was starting with the pistol -- and just to be absolutely certain, he made a final precautionary check of the weapon's settings before following after Garrus and Shepard.

"Got the tail covered, Wolf?" His fur stood up on the back of his neck, thankfully hidden by the collar of his jacket. This was not the guy he wanted watching his back. But logistically, it made more sense: the larger and slower members of a team would watch for anyone approaching them from behind, while the smaller and quicker members would be the ones to scout ahead and check that the close was clear.

And Bill was, beyond question, a shrimp compared to the rest of the team.

Wolf draw his stun blaster, making sure the setting was at least moderate. He wasn't going to take chances with some of these other aliens. Sure it would work on a Cornerian but there was no absolute guarantee it would work on other species so well. He did flash a glare at Bill but he nodded.

"I've got your back as long as you have my front."

"It's like we're one big happy family." Garrus muttered, rolling his eyes. Or, at least whatever the turian equivalent of that is. Damn turians. How do they work?

Clinging to the shadows, Garrus continued to lead the group down the hallways, snaking around the (hopefully disabled by now) security cameras, trusting the other teams to perform their tasks without a hitch. Coming to a corner, he held up a three fingered hand to stop the small crew, bending down on one knee to peer around it.

Shepard chuckled under her breath at Garrus' comment. Her eyes remained glued to the hall infront of them as she progressed further after Garrus, every so often she'd momentarily glance over her shoulder at the other two.

Once Garrus signaled to stop, she did so. Having her back pressed against the wall, her hand clenched at her rifle, blue eyes glued to Garrus.

"Hey dad, can we go out for pizza after this?" Bill remarked back, running with the joke.

Bill slowed and glanced up at the cameras as they were lead past, dreading to catch any sign of light or movement that would indicate the systems were still active. But if they were still running, they didn't show it. He stopped before the corner, glancing between Garrus's hand and scoping their immediate surroundings.

Wolf chuckled as well. "If you're good son." He put his back to the wall and looked down the way they came, his pistol raised just in case he spotted anyone. They needed to be careful, jokes or no. But that didn't mean they couldn't lighten the mood. After all, it was only McCloud who was on the line.

Garrus' mandibles flared in a wry smile as the tension broke. This was more of what he was used to: banter and teasing over cold cohesion. Out of the corner of his eye, he caught a strange sheen. Lens? He peered around the corner really quick.

Glasses.

"Stay here. I'm going to scout ahead really quick."

And without another word, Garrus prowled forward silently pressing the muzzle of his gun against the back of some hapless worker.

"Freeze!"

He figures being a dog catcher would be easy. Really, it wasn't any different than a job he would have taken back in Edo.

Except that being a dogcatcher in Edo had nothing to do with working at a maximum security and puppy correctional facility.

In this place, Pound Puppies weren't adorable little toys, they were hardened criminals! Drop the soap in here and everyone sniffed your butt!

With another day toiling away under his hakama, he walks out, heaving a tired sigh.

He wonders how Fox is doing in jail...maybe he could go visit him before he went home for the night.

His plans went up in smoke when he felt the cold metal muzzle against his back.

"AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!"

He was told to freeze. Not to shut up.

Shit!

Once Garrus recovered from... whatever the hell that was, he slammed the kid? Banshee? Thing? into the wall, slapping his hand over its mouth.

"Shut up!"

He waited a few moments (regardless of whether or not Shinpachi actually shut up before speaking again).

"I'm going to let go of your mouth, and you're going to answer my questions. All right?"

He was being held in place by a dinosaur with a scouter.

It's like everything that he thought was awesome when he was ten combined into a custom engine of pure nightmares specifically crafted to make him pee himself.

Well.

Mission accomplished, Garrus.
