When things were in disarray it somehow made the same old boring things more interesting. Perhaps because they were in new places with new contexts to go with hem. It was a way that lead to noticing things that had always been around, yet getting to see them for the first time. Before now she had never really noticed just how many things there really were, and just how many books were on the shelf. She would have to make a note on reading them, as she had yet to read much while on this ship and that wouldn't do.

When Yukari spoke she floated over to investigate what could have warranted such a remark. Yuyuko was quite sure that Yukari almost always knew what was going on, or at least was very good at pretending she did. So something odd in her own space must truly be something odd.

"What is it? Does it have a strange picture in it? Or is it one of those pamphlets. Those were quite odd," though she had to admit some of them were also very cute.

"No no... it doesn't have anything in it," she tilted her head, then moved a bit so Yuyuko could observe, holding the book closer to between them. "I can feel a strange power in it... not entirely unlike a grimoire but... there's yet nothing to show what it may more may not be..."

She flipped through a few more pages, almost as though trying to isolate a particular part of its magic. But she couldn't... not without truly prying into it, and that seemed unnecessary at the moment.

"You wish to see?" She held it a little further up to offer it to the ghost.

"Maybe there's a secret, like you chant a special word and it all appears! Oh! or maybe you draw in it and something happens," her suggestions made her a little excited and it was easily detectable in her voice. She really wanted to see if one of them might be right, so she was quite eager to take the book and test it.

She reached over to take hold, it did seem like there was something particular about it.

"do you know any magic words? Hmm... what was that one? Maybe sesame?"

When she had it in her hands, she opened it to take a look, but something seemed to start happening when she did that.

The scene shifts, until...

Yukari's first and earliest memory. One that wasn't awoken until quite recently, in fact.

In Gensokyo; a view that should be quite familiar, at least if Yuyuko retained any memories of the original Hakurei shrine. This was the hill it was on - a clearing on it that overlooked most of Gensokyo. But everything seemed... wrong. The path to Hakugyokuro was missing, the Scarlet Devil's mansion was not there, the human village looked small and tiny in the looming, monstrous shadow of Youkai mountain. Indeed, everything looked more wild and untamed than even Gensokyo. This was before the barrier was erected, and youkai ruled all the lands.

But that wasn't the most interesting thing to look at. No, what was? The source of the sound of a sudden, rattling, intake a breath, like one from someone that had been underwater for too long.

Or dead.

And the scene of Yukari - no, that wasn't Yukari, that was more Maribel, more a very human looking Yukari. Except, as she was what appeared to be swallowed and spit out by ( ... )
