After hearing a knock on his door, Fuu briskly walked over to it and opened it.

Seeing that it was Ling who was paying him a visit, he inclined his head respectfully before speaking.

"Hello, Young Master."

Ling gave a small bow in reply, stepping into the room and taking a look around to be sure they were alone. Finding the room empty, Ling stuck his hands in his pockets and turned to the old man.

"Good evening. I'm sorry for bothering you at this hour, but...there's something I wish to discuss with you."

"It is no bother."

Fuu closed the door after Ling, and then followed him into the room, wondering what Ling could possibly have to discuss. He seemed unusually serious, and it worried Fuu.

Had he accidentally offended Young Master or neglected his duties?

Deciding to stay silent, he waited for Ling to continue the conversation.

Ling was generally really good at talking, and depending on the subject he could talk for hours on end. But when it came to something so serious and potentially life changing, he had a hard time finding a starting point, especially when it concerned someone so important to him ( ... )

Fuu just stared at Ling for a moment.

Was Young Master dismissing him?

No. That was a ridiculous thought. And yet...

No. He had been serving the Yao clan for his entire life- had even somehow come back after death to continue to serve Ling- and now, suddenly, he was being cut loose ( ... )
