Polly had been on her way home from work, when she noticed the dark figure ahead. There was something strangely familiar about it, but she couldn't quite place what--she really didn't have time to, at the speed with which it approached.
Eyes wide with a mix of fear and fascination, she barely even thought to try to get out of the way until it was almost too late...
He just skimmed passed the terrified woman, coming to a halt a short distance away. Faintly, there was another flicker of recognition, but he was unsure. A friend... or a foe? She definitely seemed much more dream-like to her.
His dark claws curled and shook before snapping open again. He was still on the offensive, but actually contemplating what to do with this one before him...
Polly stood frozen for a long moment, staring into the glowing red eye.
"H-hello...?" she ventured...
She squinted at him, shifting slightly as if she wanted to take a step toward him, but wasn't sure it would be the best idea. She was almost certain there was something familiar, here, but the fact that she didn't recognize him troubled her...
He stepped back, crouching lower, clawed hand scraping against the ground. This woman had spoken, but he didn't understand what she said. He didn't understand what anything was saying actually. It was infuriating. If he couldn't understand them, was it even possible they would understand him.
They knew where she was; they had to know...! In his other hand, he raised his sword, ready to pounce. Who did he have to attack? Who did he have to kill to see her again??
It was the girl's turn to take a step back, as the sword was raised, at a loss for what to do. She could create a sword of her own, certainly, but she was so sure there must be some mistake that could be corrected, if only she could make the connection...
She raised her hands, palms out in a sign that she wasn't armed and didn't intend to become armed.
Again, he didn't understand what this woman had said, but she wasn't armed. It just annoyed him further. Tch... but he couldn't maintain this form for much longer.
Allowing his shadow form to recede, the darkness faded. Oswald stared at her coolly, but then looked elsewhere. Now that he was normal again, he was staring to recall this. Didn't he attack those monsters before? Wait...
As soon as the shadows faded, she recognized him, eyes going wide and grinning.
"Oswald! You came back! I told Gwendolyn you'd come back!"
Her grin quickly faded, replaced by a concerned frown. After all, he'd just brandished a sword at her, and she was fairly certain that they'd gotten along will enough that he wouldn't have, normally...
Well, of course he recognized Polly. They had spoken when he was... here. Wait, why was he brought back? His gaze was blank as Polly spoke and just remained that way, but that changed when she mentioned Gwendolyn.
"...! Gwendolyn... she's here?"
Well, he had a spark in his eye now, but when Polly continued, his expression dropped. He... didn't understand anything besides Gwendolyn's name. Ah, right, he charged through the arrivals area without filling out the paperwork like last time. Those 'Vogons' from last time didn't give him a Babelfish. Hm...
Polly, with her fully-functioning babelfish understood his question and nodded, excitedly. The drop in his expression, however, tipped her off that he couldn't.
Frowning, she looked around. There were rooming lists on all the floors... If they could just find one, she might be able to lead him to Gwendolyn. Motioning for him to follow, she went to look...
He could identify those motions and nodded wordlessly, following after her. The security would probably hail after them at some point, but while it was still clear, might as well. Oswald wasn't sure where Polly was leading him though; he'd have to stay on alert.
After a few minutes of walking, Polly found a bulletin board and was pulling down the rooming list, when Oswald's worry was realized. The girl nearly jumped out of her skin, when the security-bot's siren gave a short, attention-grabbing blast.
"Hostile refugee sighted." came a mechanical voice, "Please cooperate."
Oswald didn't waste a second. He turned on the security-bot when the siren died and leapt, bringing his Belderiver down on it. So noisy... and still, he didn't understand a word it had blared.
Oswald's sudden movement made her jump again, and she scrambled back a step as the halved robot sparked and flailed. With a dying bleat of "Plllssszzzz ccoopppprrrrt-t-t-t-t....." it died, but the silence didn't last for long.
More sirens sounded at the end of the hall, and Polly reached out, trying to get her violent companion's attention.
Unfortunately for Polly, his mood just soured. He leered into the hallway and raised the Belderiver again. In Erion, you didn't run from your opponents; you killed them before they killed you. The red psypher on his sword began to glow as he concentrated. No, he wasn't transforming, but with a yell, he swung the blade.
The souls collected in the crystal were released, taking the form of a destructive cyclone and tearing down the hallway. He could use a few more before having to fill the crystal again.
Polly stared after the cyclone as it wrought havoc on the group of security-bots, the hallway filling with the sound of shrieking metal and malfunctioning mechanical voices.
Sirens sounded behind them, then, and a laser was fired, the beam cutting a perfect hole in the rooming list Polly still held, though it fortunately missed anything flesh.
With a small, frustrated cry, the girl turned to them, stamping a foot.
"He just wants to find Gwendolyn!"
She held out a hand, and for a moment the air felt charged, hair coaxed on end by static electricity, and then there was lightning arching and crackling toward the trio of machines that had come up behind them.
Well, just what he needed; more creatures that could shoot lasers. He casted a wary eye at Polly. He had seen her only materialize a sword out of thin air; well, he should've assumed from that she was some sort of magic being.
Oswald drew his eyes away, looking up and down the hall. Were there anymore? If there were, it was probably best if he kept Polly out of his fight.
Eyes wide with a mix of fear and fascination, she barely even thought to try to get out of the way until it was almost too late...
