Matthew often made use of the training rooms the Thor had on offer; some were free to use, in an attempt to prevent refugees from blowing giant holes in the ship often. But Matthew was a man of wealth and taste; he paid to get his hands on one of the better ones, that recorded everything that occurred within with hi-tech laboratory equipment. He liked to review data later and improve. He had no idea if it'd work with time manipulation, but it was worth trying.
Naturally, he was extremely early for their appointed meeting time, both due to excitement and because it was just his style. He wasn't dressed in his usual black suit, black shirt, black shoes (black everything) and black tiny top hat today, opting for a more casual set of miniaturised cargo pants and a black hoody, emblazoned with blood red words stating 'Murder Everything.' His chosen room happened to have benches around the sides, and so he had taken a seat on one, effortlessly juggling three knives with his left hand to keep himself busy.
