For the same reasons as Fox, Garrus made his way back to the Sigrun, memories of the near-disaster on Noveria with Shepard fresh in his mind. Initially, he didn't plan on getting caught on the ship for any longer than necessary-- get in, torch the source plant, and get the hell out. So, naturally, he prepared for things to go horribly, horribly wrong ( ... )

"Nice to hear a familiar voice," Fox replied softly, not wanting to give away his position to anything else that could be lying in wait in the area, "I take it you had the same plan I did."

"Anyway, I've got you covered from up here. Think you're up to teaming up again?"

There was a sudden sound from down the hall, probably a metal door of some sort. It was too dark to see from Fox's position. He didn't really want to turn his flashlight on, as it might attract something aggressive (or hungry).
"Sounds like you showed up at a good time."

It didn't take long.
"Okay, ugly. Let's do this." Garrus growled, savoring the moment. Before taking the shot.
Yeah don't worry, Fox. That mutated alien thing is SPLATTERED ALL OVER THE PLACE AWWW YEAH.

He really didn't like the idea of killing these things, considering there was no telling which ones were freakish mutations of innocent people, and which ones were legitimate space monsters. Still, it was better to kill them and survive than be eaten.
In a way, maybe they were doing them a favor?
"Thanks for the save. I can't see a thing from down here."

As for the mutations currently trying to kill them, Garrus made peace with the idea of killing what used to be innocent people long ago. Fighting against the Reapers usually entailed some kind of moral ambiguity.
"More will be on the way. Need me to guide you from up here?"

Fox peeked out around his makeshift shelter, his ears turning this way and that as he listened for anymore unfriendlies. "I don't hear anything just yet, but there's a good chance something will have been attracted by that noise. If you could tell me how to get to your position I think I'd be fine."

"If it's anything like before, there should be a door leading to a staircase somewhere around here," Garrus began, "I got lucky though. The door didn't close all the way. We may have to backtrack. It's up to you."

"It beats being down here with these things."

"There's a clear path behind you and to your right. Move quickly. I'll try and provide a distraction."
Garrus' words were curt and to the point as he focused once again on the doorway. Those creatures were moving slow, cautious (for the moment), and Garrus intended to use that to their advantage.
"Let me know when you're ready. Unless you've got another plan."

Fox holstered his weapon, just in case he'd need to have his hands free, and scoped out the path behind him that Garrus had described. It looked like a clear shot, so he prepared himself to basically run for his life.
"I'm ready. All clear?"

The rest of the pack move immediately, following the sound of the rifle. He did his best to work quickly, readjusting his scope and letting eyepiece take care of the new calculations. His targets moved fast, their limbs creating background movement and adding to the confusion. Garrus took a deep breath. Panicking wasn't an option.
The next shot found its target easily-- two more to go.

It wasn't long before he reached the door, allowing himself a brief look behind him before he entered. It would have been bad if they followed him up, but he didn't really have the time nor the materials to create any sort of barricade. He drew his machine gun again once he reached the stairs in case he'd have to mow anything behind him down, and began ascending them as quickly as he could. With any luck, Garrus would be able to hold them off, but if not it was always good to be prepares.

But as a flow of mutated aliens began to very slowly trickle into the room, Garrus couldn't help but feel that trouble was a slight possibility. Very slight. In an effort to control what he could, Garrus doubled his efforts, felling his enemies as quickly and cleanly as time allowed. He remembered Omega, the moments right before Shepard found him (funnily enough, under the guise of Archangel) and how the mercs sent to kill him followed almost the same exact pattern.
Except they didn't have massive mouths rowed with thousands of serrated teeth for hands. Or tentacles.
"McCloud, you copy? We may have a bit of trouble."

The last thing Fox wanted was to endanger someone else for the sake of his own safety. He jumped back down the stairs and, upon reaching the door, cracked it open. Nothing seemed to be right up next to it yet, so he pulled a grenade free from his belt, yanked the pin with his teeth, and hurled it down the corridor (He'd invested in a few traditional grenades on top of his flash ones for this trip A+).
An explosion rocked the area a few seconds later, the unearthly screams of the mutants ripping through the corridor immediately after. Fox couldn't see how many he'd injured, and he didn't plan to stick around to find out. He made his way back up the stairs.
"Sorry about the noise."
