...Or try to, anyway. The world felt like it was under an odd, chilly sort of film when he finally noticed it - and, as his mind tried to catch up with the strangeness of it, he found he couldn't quite decipher what the person on the other side of the door was saying.
"Ah...Sentaro...?"
It was muttered a bit blearily, and - oh, dear. What if it was Kiyone? That would probably jump-start an argument if nothing else did...ah, that was going to be troublesome...
With a sigh, he shifted - but only managed to roll over about halfway. The strange weakness pinned him down still, like an all-around weight...

"Are you okay?" He inquired, smothering a yawn and resisting the urge to stretch for the moment. Now that he knew Ukitake wasn't dead, his concern seemed silly, even if the nagging voice persisted that something was wrong.

Shit. He should have known. Practically ordering Ukitake's door to open, Gin stepped inside and went straight to the man who was coughing in his bed. "Lie down and shut up." He ordered instantly, his cool hand coming up to smooth Ukitake's hair away from his face so that he could check his temperature.
"Should've figured you were sick." He muttered, more to himself than anything.

That being said, he found himself a bit unsure as to what just happened, with the speed at which Gin was suddenly inside and by the bedside. Bemused, he noted the hand suddenly on his head, and raised an arm himself, taking that same hand by the wrist and moving it off gently but firmly.
If only so as to give Gin a fairly baffled look.
"...Ah, what?"
He glanced around, then - come to think of it...goodness, how long had he been out...?
"...What time is it?"

Now that he thought about it, maybe had overreacted.
Just a smidgen.

In fact it was perhaps partly because of this, then, that Ukitake didn't really notice the hesitation in those words, or the unusualness of the actions Gin was performing at the moment. Instead, at the mention of the time, his eyebrows immediately rose - and he made an attempt at sitting up again abruptly, propping himself on an elbow.
"Ah - is it really? So late already? But--"
He had to cut off those words in favor of immediately pressing a palm of his mouth instead, however, as another coughing fit overtook him - this one heavier and damper than the last.
A vicious cycle appeared to be starting up - one that was probably better waylayed before it got much further...

With a soft, barely audible murmur, the tips of his fingers began to glow slightly. That accomplished, he began to swiftly draw the character for "restore" on Ukitake's neck. It was clumsy and inefficient, like pouring a cup of water on a forest fire but without knowing the true cause of the coughing, it was all he was willing to do. Only an idiot would throw healing magic at someone without knowing what they were trying to fix.

Sufficiently bemused but placated enough for the moment through sheer surprise, Ukitake sat still and blinked a couple of times - but then Gin started…well, drawing something over there…
"--What are you--"
The question forms but stops short, for a moment. Even in the only partial lucidity of a high fever, he could feel some effects of the restoration spell starting to kicking in - namely an odd, warm sort of feeling, not particularly expansive, but...
He took a breath - and found that he could already breathe just a little easier, and even steady his voice some.
He gave the latter a faintly surprised look, eyebrows upraised.
"...What are you doing...?"

Raising his head at Ukitake's inquiry, Gin straightened and ran his hand through his hair as he answered. "Getting you water." And with those curt, evasive words, he left the room to do just that.
Whether it was because of Ukitake's reaction or the inability to face the fact that he'd just crossed a line he'd sworn he never would, Gin simply didn't feel like dealing with that right now.

With a small sound of surprise he caught the leading end of the blanket through sheer reflex, narrowly avoiding spilling the water at the same time.
"Is trying to sit up such a bad thing...?"
It could have been remarked a bit petulantly, but instead it came out rather absently. Still, Ukitake absentmindedly shifted around some, tugging the sheet over one shoulder and balancing the glass with his free hand. The room was rather cold, after all ( ... )

Only when he was in the hallway did he let his hands drop. Seriously, the guy was a bit of a dork. Heading into the kitchen, Gin got some water boiling before he began to dig around for those canned soups he'd bought a while ago. What did you expect? Home made soups took hours to cook right. The good ones anyway. Coming up with one after a few minutes of searching, he opened it, tossed it in a pot and set it to boil while he went to go get properly dressed ( ... )

Lamenting the latter's blatant ignorance of his request to not worry seemed a bit useless at this point, all the same. With a quiet sigh, Ukitake took another sip of water, gently placed the cup on the bedside table next to the box of tissues, and finally conceded to the weakness currently plaguing his limbs, sinking down on his back upon the pillow and studying the ceiling above absently. Gin's spell still seemed to be working, but the fatigue still lingered, as did a faint pain in the general chest area.
But that was all just par for the course.
He honestly hadn't intended to doze off - but Ukitake did anyway, in the short amount of time Gin took to ready the soup. So it was that Gin would not receive an answer for his warning...but would find Ukitake sleeping lightly in the bed when he returned, covers pulled up about halfway, looking possibly a bit paler than before.
