Quite a bit of power for one person. Who has designated your authority? The citizens? An authority above you?

Some may say so, yes. Fugue's funded this operation, so he's the authority above me. This is no military organization, this is a job--who gets into the Watch should hardly be something left up to majority vote. On top of that, I've served as the Guard's second in command for some time. If somebody has a problem with my authority, this is the time to bring it up.

SHE APPROVES. B| ice_echani December 3 2009, 03:32:11 UTC
I agree. This place has been lacking in proper laws and regulations for some time.

Somehow, I thought you would, Handmaiden. I'm sure the Guard's better for your being there, but if you want to join up, there's a place for you.

It would be my honor to do so.

The Guard's going back to their initial duty: guarding the Hatchery and assisting in evacuation processes.

Investigation? Have you thought about scientific investigation?

Haha YAY ROSALIND stonyfaced December 3 2009, 04:29:40 UTC
I've thought about it, yes, but I can't say I know too much about it. You've got some ideas of your own, I'm assuming?

I have LOTS of ideas! I'm not sure how to do all of them, but I'm sure we could figure them out. And...I'm an investigator, back home. Or I will be, Apollo said. I think that makes this my destiny.

I'm not too sure about this whole destiny thing, but if you're so keen, you're free to come and see me with your ideas. I could always use a few more.

What will stop this from becoming corrupt? When authority is trusted to your Watch, what will keep them from abusing it? What ideals do you strive for, that you can claim to be above corruption?

stonyfaced December 3 2009, 04:32:17 UTC
I can't promise anything but to keep a close eye on it. If I find a corrupt officer, they're going to wish they weren't one, because then they'll have me to deal with. I take a very dim view on it. I'll be sure to hammer the idea of what to do with their authority into their heads, and abuse will not be tolerated. The ideals I strive for is not to go out there looking for trouble--we're here to keep the peace, and nothing more. No killing without the circumstances being dire, avoidance of causing grievous harm.

[Long delay before he replies, and his writing is deliberate and even.]

That is not enough. I would like to join the Watch. I would prefer to witness how you handle things with my own eyes.

Good enough reason as any, I suppose. I think I recognize your writing. No, don't tell me... Gundam, right?

To get hired, you'll have to come see me for an interview, which I'll be giving all of the new recruits, regardless of whether or not I've worked with them before, and I'll have to see what you can do.
