Let me tell you a fairly brief (HAHAHA no) story.
Many, many years ago, when it was still the '90s, I fell in love with and married a wonderful game called Final Fantasy III (I later found out that its true name was Final Fantasy VI and was a bit shocked but I figured it wasn't too big a deal that it wanted to seem younger by shaving 3 years off and forgave it). Final Fantasy III/VI introduced me to its older sibling, Final Fantasy II/IV (dang, why can't these games just accept their age gracefully!? Ain't no need to hide it!) and it was also like, "Hey, what do you think of polygamy?" and so I decided to buy and play that game too.
But those were...different times, you see, and SNES cartridges are as fragile as love itself can be. One day, just after I managed to get the second to last dungeon, the catridge betrayed me. It said something like "Start New Game" and didn't show my game files at all. I knew what had happened. I'd always dreaded it and tried to prepare myself for this sort of thing but...I didn't know how painful it could be.
Final Fantasy II/IV had forgotten everything we shared. I would have to start over.
Well, I couldn't handle it, to tell you the truth. After throwing a couple of fits and tantrums and yelling at FFIII/VI about its older sibling, I decided to dedicate my energies to my next game, Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals. I forgot about FFII/IV and just put it in a drawer somewhere. The wound was still too raw and my heart too delicate and teenagery.
I ran into the game again many, many years later (after it had finally come to terms with its age and was finally going by FFIV). When I heard it was being released on the GBA, I decided to give it a chance. However, my heart was incredibly fickle at this point and I had a mountain of other games I wanted to play. I ended up pushing it more and more into the backburner and didn't actually make it past a little before the halfway point before I moved on to its hot, younger sibling, FFV, which had also just been released for the GBA. Then FFVI (who had also finally owned up to its age) was released on the GBA as well and FFIV remained even more forgotten.
So how DID FFIV finally regain my attention? Well, apparently, I am a shallow, shallow girl, my friends. Since it was released on the Nintendo DS with a complete makeover, voice acting, and cool extras such as augments, I decided to give FFIV one more chance. I mean, everyone knows it's one of the best Final Fantasy games and I WAS enjoying it before. And so I bought it and played it (it still took me forever and I did get distracted by many other games again) and here we are.
At the very final dungeon.
It is because it's the final dungeon that I feel so...nostalgic and kind of teary, actually! Realizing that, "WOW. I've never...SEEN this before!" and that I am so close to completing another Final Fantasy game. It may be a dumb ambition but it is still my ~dream~ to complete all the FF games that have been released (well, except for FFXI, but that's different). The point is, I'm all PSYCHED, MAN. And my team is so READY and we're gonna WIN. And then I should probably move onto FFIII, FFV, and FFVIII (man, I haven't even BOUGHT FFI and FFII yet...I suppose I could get the PSP version).
Cecil, you were a good guy and I have a crush on your voice. I am so glad you took off that helmet.
Rydia, I love you as much as I always did and still want your hair.
Tellah, we will always remember your "spoony bard" line. I should have known you'd leave me the moment you gained the ability to use a million spells.
Edward, I totally wish you had better fighting skills because I would have loved to have you around for longer.
Rosa, I liked you 10 times better this time around and I can seriously say my FFIV life would have been so much worse without you and Dualcast.
Kain...I will forgive you someday. =_=
Yang, I MISS YOU SO MUCH T_T I LOVE YOUR KICK ABILITY.
Cid, you were way awesomer outside of battle than in it and we thank you for your airship skills.
Edge, I will always be eternally grateful to your Shuriken-throwing skills and your cool cape and hairstyle.
Fusoya, dang, you were around for, like, one dungeon and your MP seriously sucked, but your beard will always be legend and thanks a lot for the augments.
SO GOOD LUCK TO US ALL, MY PARTY MEMBERS. I think I will actually cry a little when it's all over.
