Can't think of a clever lead-in phrase this time so ah...
I really enjoyed this SPN’s Mid-Season Finale this week. It was missing Cas so that took a little bit away from it for me, but all and all, it was good.
Amelia’s flashbacks weren’t quite so awkward as they were before, but Jared doesn’t really seem to have any chemistry with the actress. Mind you, I’m thinking of Sam and Ruby and considering he married the very lovely Genevieve, I don’t think we’ll ever see that chemistry again. He’s also ridiculously in love with his wife so that probably takes away some of the chemistry as well.
Anyway, I actually really enjoyed Benny in this episode and it was nice to see Kathleen Monroe again, she was in “The Kids are All right” back in season three and she also had a recurring guest spot on the SyFy show Alphas. She’s actually a really good actress and did a great job. It’s funny though, they kept on saying “Dean gets his flirt on” but he only sorta, kinda flirted for like two seconds then found out she was Benny’s granddaughter and he was all “Oh shit, no way” and stopped right there. I wouldn’t even say that qualified as a flirt, more a charm. Just goes to prove that Dean’s real love interest this season is Castiel. *winks*
What else, what else… Hmm, I don’t think I like what they did with poor Martin though, I know he was still kind of looney but still, he was actually pretty likable when he first came on the show. Oh well… Also, I’m actually glad (in a way) that Benny killed Martin because Dean’s line about everyone betraying him at some point really irritated me. I really want them to address the fact that Castiel did what he did back in season six because of and for Dean. In his own misguided way he was trying to protect the Winchesters and then took it a leap and a bound too far. Anyway, Cas and Dean are BFFs again so I suppose I can’t be too terribly upset.
Sammy hanging up on Dean was irritating though. I’m in the camp where I don’t mind the boys going their separate ways as long as they’re not fighting. I appreciate just Sam and just Dean(and Cas) but only if it’s an amicable separation and a temporary one. I’m sure it will be resolved fairly quickly though.
Overall? A good mid-season finale. It wasn’t painfully heart-wrenching or terrifying. The preview was actually the thing that put me right on the edge of my seat and I’m sure that’s what they intended. They know Misha-Castiel brings in the viewers so it’s actually smart to make his comeback episode also the shows return. Though I really hope they don’t make Dean not trust Cas again, we’ve had that just a bit too much the last few seasons. I hope whatever is going to happen to Cas actually encourages Dean to do something about it. Judging from how they have portrayed the relationship though this season, I’m thinking it’s going to be latter. I also think Castiel may become human next season and whatever is going on is paving the way for that. Also of course, it would mean (most likely) that Misha is contracted back into the show as a regular. *fingers crossed*
