RELATIONSHIPS

Huey Laforet
evaluative | Baccano!

"All you need to do is remain here... and remain loyal."

Father. Her only blood tie, other than an absent, airheaded mother. The only one who loves her, she believes. The only one to whom she is unconditionally loyal, to a point where trust and self-preservation are no longer part of the contract. He hardly seemed surprised to see her, compared to her quickly restrained joy at seeing him. Their relationship, without the guidance of his other 'daughter' from home, is sparce of meetings, made of subtle suggestions and questions. She joined AGI on his orders. And now, she is torn, balanced between Huey's seeming disappointment in her, and her own activities. But her loyalty is never in question.

Rin Asano
payback | Blade Of The Immortal

"Go on, don't worry. We'll share the game."

Another young woman residing in Minako's boarding-house in Sector 4. The very one to introduce her to and offer a place at the boarding-house where Chane now lives. They still don't know very much about each others' personal lives or pasts, but Rin's friendliness and willingness to just spend time with her attracts Chane. It's also that unconditional kindness that has given her the resolve to protect her. It's instinctive, really-- just particularly focused on this sweet girl who gently accepts her limits and her shyness, and in turn brings out Chane's self-awareness of her own behaviour. Rin's concern for her makes her especially self-conscious; there are certain sides to herself she wouldn't want to show her.

Claire Stanfield
vinovidivici | Baccano!

"I knew I couldn't stand a world apart from you for long."

The Rail Tracer. Vino. Claire Stanfield. Felix Walken. The man who proposed to kill her atop a train, then proposed to marry her. What made her trust his words and promise to find him again was his honesty, his wholehearted honesty, confusing as it was. Confusing as it still is-- she accepts his honesty now, and is slowly progressing to understanding it. Or at the very least, understanding herself, and what he means when he says he will 'expand her world'. He promises to protect her, to always be there, to protect her secrets, and so she trusts him deeply, despite their occasional differences. He's also generally spot-on at recognising her thoughts without her needing to say anything.

Yukio Tonegawa
12second_orz | Gyakkou Burai Kaiji

"You're a relatively easy woman to trust, Laforet-kun."

A gambling tycoon who runs his own sarakin moneylending (read: loan shark) business, Imperial Finance, sponsored by Afterglow, Inc. She had had her eye on the establishment since before her father suggested she join AGI; if anything, for the professionalism of the place. As one of Tonegawa's debt collectors, she is dispatched for the subtler missions requiring more physical tenacity than those to which he can assign one of his burly black-suited subordinates. Being treated with enough distance and recognition of her skills and limits allows her to remain very firmly loyal to him, and only him within the business. Such loyalty takes her to accompany him to formal events, to share a drink at his request, to physically assault him should she assess it was for his own good-- simply, carrying out his orders without emotional attachment, but without feeling as though she needs to bear with it. She does not seek emotional bonds with this man.
