I managed to catch a matinee of
Battle: Los Angeles. It was big explody fun. Not a great movie by any stretch, but a good summer 'blockbuster', full of shooting, grunting, manliness, and blowing shit up. MARIIINES. And hooyah. I did get a bit tired of the up-close shakey-cam technique, but it certainly had the desired effect. They did a particularly good job of sharing the feel of a squad being totally out of their depth, overpowered, and absolutely unprepared for what hits them.
It follows close in the footsteps of
Independence Day, but with a more in-the-trenches atmosphere. Like ID, it has a couple of large plot holes, but much less general goofiness and flag-waving froth.
For those who like that sort of thing, this is just the sort of thing they'll like. I do, and did. :p
Up next? I'm tempted by
Red Riding Hood, but the reviews on it are very mixed. May be a rental.
lilsongbird is
taking comissions, for quite cheap, if you liked the ones I posted earlier. Check it out!
