Friday evening Lionel (70 pound border collie/chow/sheperd/etc mix) and Roudy (ex racer greyhound) got into yet another fight. I've lost count. Once again we had trusted Lionel to live with his muzzle off... and yet again he repaid that trust with another fight. Probably 'resource guarding' bfly, who was putting groceries away in the freezer, behind a door... and Lionel feels an obsessive need to chase everyone away.

Anyway... they were both pretty beat up, and as usual Lionel got off light due to his thick fur coat. They were both limping pretty good for a couple of days, but Lionel got better, and Roudy got worse, his left leg swelling up pretty bad. It looked like a bad sprain, so we iced it and kept him on anti-inflammatories and painkillers, but... this morning it was obviously time for a trip to the vet.

He was running a temp of 105.3 f, which is about 3 degrees high, and the vet's pretty sure it's an infection, so she gave him a shot of antibiotics, and a course of oral antibiotics. Bless her heart, she gave us a course of pain meds for him, too. Man. It's those little gestures that mean so much. If I can find time anywhere, I'd like to donate a few hours of chair massage to the clinic.

Poor guy is in so much pain, but he's such a stoic. Greyhounds can be real drama queens about minor injuries, but the serious stuff they take in stride. Which makes them a bit tough to diagnose... the vet said she can't tell if there's a break in there or not, as swollen as it is, and even if there is they have to get the infection dealt with first. So... if he's not better by Thursday, the bills are gonna rack up higher.

God, I'm tired of this. I'm so sick of being a drain on the world... I want to be back to being able to GIVE to people! To support more thoroughly, instead of having to lean against. I'm not very good at accepting help. Maybe it's the lesson I need to learn. I can think of better ways to teach it. And we do have some truly awesome friends who've stood with us through all this.

Did some texturing last night - wanted to just do a sample area to see if it was matching the existing texture, and I think I've got a pretty good handle on it. So if I can get all that done during the week, we should be able to hit our painting goal this weekend.

bfly's making a very yummy sounding Guinness-Braised Beef Brisket in the crock pot.

I love the comic Catharsis.

Also, it's pi day. Give a shout out at 1:59 on 3/14. :p
