"Remember?" He knew this sort of thing would come up again. Of course, he never wanted to admit that he had no recollection of that year, and any attempt at thinking back past his accident would always give him a headache.
"I'm sorry, you know, I've met so many people in my life... I'm sure I've written about you in my notes from that year, however."
Some bit inside of Gilderoy ached when she asked if it was his shop. Not that he wasn't proud of it - quite the contrary. He was incredibly proud - and rightly so - of what he had achieved in the past year. His customer base had increased, and he was no longer relying on handouts and charitable donations to get his business going. The school year had brought him scores of children, all requiring traditional robes.
However, he was also quite aware that other businesses had grown faster and were in larger buildings with more customers.
"We're expanding soon," he blurted out before he could think of anything else to say. "I believe we'll have a storefront in the downtown area for the more modern fashions, and I'll still keep this shop for yarn and more traditional wizarding robes. For now though, this is it. Rather charming, I think."
She wasn't surprised he didn't remember her. She'd been almost as bad a student as he'd been as a teacher, so she wouldn't be surprised if he'd forgot her as soon as he left the school. Though she was never quite sure what that had been about; something to do with the Chamber of Secrets being reopened. Still, he was a shopowner now and she was a government official, and even though she was here on personal business, it would be bad to embarrass him any further.
"Oh, you'll be expanding?" Now she was interested professionally. "Well, that's good news for all of us, isn't it? I should give you my card. I'm in charge of the Floo Network now, in the new Ministry. I'm sure you'll want a Floo connection in your new place." She reached in her handbag, pulling out a small, thick parchment card and handing it to him. Looking around, she spotted his Floo. "I hope the Floo here is working properly. Be sure to let me know if it needs any adjustments."
