Losing the Quidditch World Cup had been a wake-up call for Ron. Sure, he'd fulfilled a childhood dream, but the months of training and the rigours of the matches convinced him that he didn't have a future in professional Quidditch. He needed to find some sort of work he really loved, and while he loved Quidditch, loved flying, he didn't really love what it took to play at that level, or even at the regular professional level. He also couldn't see himself constantly traveling hither and yon. He also knew, back when he took the leave of absence from his job, that he didn't love printing books. It was a good steady living with regular hours, but after the first few months he'd become bored. He wanted to do something he really enjoyed. He also wanted something that would anchor him to the community in Stoatshead Hill. He'd grown up here, and he wanted to be a valued member of the community. Basically, he wanted to find something he loved to do and run with it. Maybe talking with Hermione would help.
She might also be able to help him prepare for his meeting with Rabastan Lestrange on Wednesday. He'd been anxious since the confrontation at Orla's almost a week ago, but Hermione hadn't been there to back him up. He couldn't invite her to be with him tomorrow, but at least he could pick her brain for facts and advice.
Lastly, he wanted to share his news about his living arrangements. Hermione and Lavender hadn't always got along, but he was happy with Lavender and that was what really mattered to her.
He'd still not gone back to Vanateigh Press, so he had a lie-in and spent much of the morning making chicken curry for lunch. At half-twelve he heard a knock and opened the front door, letting in his ever-punctual best friend.
"Hullo," he said brightly, gathering her in a hug. "Been too long."
