"Yes, a masquerade. They are requiring costume and mask for everyone. There will be an unmasking at midnight, but we need not stay that long. I would be more than happy to unmask you myself in private, my love." He gave her ear gentle tug with his teeth.

Rabastan smiled, "Do you have a costume in mind, darling or shall I be surprised?"

"The music should be good. Mr. Dearborn of the local Musical Club approached me about the Arts Foundation covering expenses so that they could afford to hire professional bands."

Rabastan purred as her hand stroked along the scar on his thigh. "I had not thought that far, although I do have a pair of my maternal grandparent's Venetian masks that my mother was particularly found of in the vault, if you wish to take the symbolic approach and go as fire and ice. I get the impression that the majority are going in more literal costumes. It would not be difficult to acquire Egyptian or Indian dress." Rabastan nuzzled her and purred in her ear, "You could make a beautiful belly dancer, darling. I am completely open to suggestions as long as my costume does not include the feathered cap, tights and codpiece I occasional joke about." He chuckled against her neck.

Rabastan tried for a pout, but his lips quirked too much for it to be a very successful one. "Ah, well, you cannot blame a man for trying," he chuckled. "I believe that one would be better saved for a private moment anyway. I have a hard enough time keeping my fingers away from those devilish bows you like to wear near your navel. A dancing costume would be sure to send me over the edge." He grinned and kissed the corner of her mouth he could reach right where it turned up in an adorable smile.

"Castor or Ares for me then? I believe I am on to you. I refuse tights and a codpiece, so you attempt to put me in a short skirt. If you want a look at my legs, darling, all you have to do is ask," he chuckled and playfully nuzzled her again. "I suppose I could always abandon the classic Greek shorter warrior's clothing for a longer robe. You would look lovely in a Grecian gown yourself."

"You mentioned siblings with Athena and Ares, so I simply followed suit with Castor. However, I much prefer the role of lover to brother where you are concerned, darling. Helen and Paris, then?" He moved sideways a bit so that he could turn her enough to manage a full kiss. "It is only logical that you should attend as the most beautiful woman in the world, for you are." He kissed her again before she could protest, then again because he wanted her to feel the truth of his words. He might not want her for her beauty, but that it was part of her was not something he was shy about acknowledging or admiring. Rabastan was positive that nothing could stop his love for her, and even if she was not Helen, he would do everything in his power to keep her now that he had her.

Rabastan continued to play with her hair and settled himself so that she could rest more comfortably against him if she wished. It was nice to have an evening completely to themselves.

He looked at her with curiosity, "Tell me what I may have an interest in knowing then, witch. You are well aware I am a most curious wizard. I will endeavor to curb any kind of expectation if you wish." He grinned at her, wondering what on earth had happened, as her cryptic words provided no clue at all.

Rabastan was perplexed at her tone, as she tried to pass off whatever had occurred, but he kept quiet. He became fairly sure that this was important when she stopped looking at him directly as she continued. His curiosity was indeed high now, but he held his tongue, willing to simply listen.

The request for divorce was uncontested.

He gently touched his thumb and forefinger to her chin, but made no further move, "Will you look at me, Narcissa? Is this not what you wanted? Are you so terribly disappointed Lucius did not contest?" He could tell she was uncomfortable with her revelation, but she had him convinced it was what she desired. Perhaps he had been mistaken.

Rabastan met her gaze. "No, you had me convinced this was what you wanted," he answered truthfully. "I am confused because I suspect that there is something bothering you in this, but I'll be hexed if I can figure out what it is. This cannot be easy news for you to relate, but have I given you any reason to think this was not the outcome I desired for you as well?"

He thought back on what she said at the start of the conversation. "Expectations. Is that it? You were not worried about me expecting something, but my thinking you were?" Rabastan thought he might have the right end of it now. "My expectations for us are the same as they have ever been, Narcissa. I expect to spend the remainder of my life loving you, and hope that you will grant me the same. You know perfectly well that there is more I desire, as I have told you what is hidden in my heart, but Cissy, we have time to figure all this out now that there may actually be... future opportunity. Do we not?"

He kissed her temple gently, "I can imagine, but please know that there is nothing you cannot tell me, Narcissa, no matter how difficult. I hope I have proved myself a trustworthy partner, my dear."

Rabastan watched as she made light of the situation and shook his head. "Cissy, perhaps I need to make my own meaning plainer, because I suspect we may not be in complete agreement and I am unwilling to let the possibility of a misunderstanding in this matter intrude. My thoughts, while complex at the possibilities overall, at the moment center around a few keys things ( ... )
