Dear Eleanor,

I enjoyed having dinner with you and Ernie recently and I hope things are getting back to something like normal for you two.  We mentioned getting together for lunch or something sometime soon and I wanted to schedule that.

I did get the job at the apothecary, working mornings so the twins can actually sleep in occasionally.  So either a weekend lunch or drinks/dinner during the week would probably work best for me.  How about you?  Is the shop going well?  I should pop in soon.

Sincerely,
 Hannah

Dear Wayne,

Can you believe it's already fall?  Where did the summer go?  I feel like I haven't seen you in ages; let's get together soon.

Love,
 Han
Hannah had bought some gold coin candies from Eloise's shop and some lavender scented soaps from Eleanor's.  She took the opportunity to send out some very belated birthday gifts, attaching the chocolates to cards for Harry and Neville and the soaps to one for Ginny.

Dear Neville,

I'm sorry this is so late, but I hope you had a happy birthday. When I saw these chocolate coins in the shop I thought of the DA and the way you and Harry and the others taught us so much.

If you need my help with anything Herbology related or you just want to exchange cuttings/pods/seeds, let me know.  I'm always happy to talk shop with a fellow enthusiast.

Sincerely,
 Hannah

Dear Harry,

I'm sorry this is belated, but I hope you had a happy birthday and enjoyed your travels abroad.  I thought of you and the DA immediately when I saw these at Eloise's shop, and I had to send you some.  I don't know that we've ever thanked you adequately for all you taught us in those clandestine months.  I'm sure you saved more than one life by teaching us to defend ourselves.

Anyway, thank you, and many happy returns of your birthday,
Hannah Abbott

Dear Ginny,

I was very sorry to miss your party, but I hear it was a great success.  Then again, I heard it from your brothers who are now my employers, so your take on it might be a bit different.  At any rate, I thought you might enjoy these.  They're from Eleanor Branstone's new shop, but I had to guess as to a scent you'd like.  I hope I picked well and I truly hope you had a happy birthday.  We should catch up sometime soon.

The fun correspondence out of the way, Hannah dug out the vitriolic letter from Ernie's mother and set about answering it.

Dear Mrs. Macmillan,

You'll be happy to hear that Ernie is recovering well and should be back to 100% soon.

As for the rest of your letter, my answer is the same as Ernie's.  While I'm flattered that you consider(ed) me to be like family and appreciate all that you and your family have done for me since my mother was killed, becoming your heir is not something I would consider.

In the first place, Ernie is the rightful heir and the conditions of his father's will are ridiculous.  No self respecting modern young wizard would accept those sorts of restrictions on his life and I fully support Ernie's decision to refuse.  As much as I considered all of you to be extended family, Ernie is my adopted brother first and foremost, and my ultimate loyalty is to him.

Even if Ernie weren't a factor, I wouldn't accept the conditions of the inheritance anyway.  I have no romantic prospects at the moment, I would not be willing to limit my options to pure-bloods -- or even wizards.  I might never marry, but if and when I do it will be up to my husband and myself if and how many children we have.  Also, I'd make a terrible society witch even if my blood status would meet  their approval.  Dad died so young that I had limited exposure to his branch, and Mum had moved to England so I didn't experience much of the Scottish clannishness either, except from her stories.  I'd be pants at advancing the Macmillan name even if I didn't want to hold up the Abbott and Hannah names, which I do.

Respectfully,
 Hannah
She thought about mentioning that Eleanor would soon be a Macmillan, but that was Ernie and Eleanor's news to tell her -- or not -- as they saw fit.  Sighing, she mailed all the letters.
