The stalls were set up back-to-back in the streets, and Su was pleased at the striking appearance they made. There were booths for fine arts and crafts as well as food. Su was pleased to see that many local businesses had decided to participate in the Festival. Hopefully this would be good for Stoatshead.

Roger planted his feet, crossing his arms as he looked over his stall. Not bad, even if he didn't have the best eye for arranging things. He'd set out some of his smaller things on the counter and along the back of the stall, and a few handmade chairs and desks were taking up residence on beside the stall. He'd gotten one on the end, so he could fit everything. Smiling, he took a look at the train set and rocking horse that Viktor had made along with the other toys, and grinned.

It all looked pretty good to him.

He glanced at Hermione, who was sitting in the wooden rocking chair he'd brought, and smiled. It was good to have her here with him; he'd never displayed his work like this before, not the furniture bit. But it was good to be able to show off some of things he'd worked hard on so that people could actually see it.

The rocking chair was going home with them. Roger didn't know that yet, but Hermione had fallen in love as soon as she saw it, and she'd staked her claim by sitting in it so no one else would get any ideas about buying it. She'd pay for it, of course, because Roger deserved compensation for his amazing furniture.

She felt him looking at her and smiled at him. "It's a nice day for a festival. You shouldn't worry so much, though, because your work is brilliant, and people will love it."

After spending the better part of the past week trying to make his flat look as though someone lived in it besides dust mites and rodents, Justin finally decided it was time to confront the furniture issue. The chair Connie had transfigured for him was excellent, but he figured a new table and maybe even another chair would suit the virtually empty flat.

He'd been hearing about an arts festival going on in town, and while he'd never been particularly interested in artistic things, there were apparently vendors there selling their wares for hopefully cheap prices. Sure enough, after wedging his way though the loads of people enjoying the festival, he came upon a stall that seemed to be selling everything from wooden toys to desks and chairs.

Justin first noticed a train set, which reminded him so much of his old train set back home that he was tempted to buy it on the spot. Fortunately, his tiny bit shred of self-control stopped him. His priority was furniture. Maybe he'd be a pathetic 25-year-old man with a train set on his ( ... )

Saturday was Musical Day. Su smiled to see the variety of huge playground instruments. Caradoc Dearborn and the Arts Foundation had found a variety of instruments, and Su had heard that the children would be parading along River Road. She couldn't wait to see that.

A pair of young house elves appeared at Caradoc's back door early that morning, immediately putting his own elf Cai on edge. "Master, Cai is being strong enough to move things!"

"I know that Cai, but these elves are working for the festival and know where these are supposed to go."

"Cai is knowings too, Master!" The elf whined.

"But then you wouldn't be able to help me, Cai," Caradoc countered.

"You is needing Cai's help, Master?" The elf looked up at him with shiny, hopeful eyes.

"Of course I do. You didn't think Mrs. Arabella and I would get along today without you, did you?" The little elf threw herself around his legs and Caradoc patted her silly head. "I'll always need you, Cai. Now that the playground things are taken care of, we need to take the other things. If you take the shrunken instruments, I'll get the crafts."

The Charms Professor and old house elf appeared before the festival hours and started setting up. Arabella should be along soon and the other volunteers. This was going to be fun.

Arabella was looking forward to volunteering at the children's tent at the Arts Festival. With no children or grandchildren of her own, and Caradoc's brood (her surrogate grandchildren) all in the United States, she didn't have many opportunities to play with little ones. Now that she no longer had to pretend to be a batty old woman (well, battier than she might already be), she could savour their company and not work at keeping them at arm's length. The walk from her house to River Road was pleasant enough and as she approached the children's area she found Caradoc and Cai almost finished setting up the musical instruments ( ... )

"I'm sure they will. The first set of volunteers are supposed to be here shortly. Can you can keep up with the crafts to make the shakers and tamborines? The teens know how to make them and they're supposed to help the little ones, but I'd like an adult around too. Ralph Pickney volunteered to help with the instruments this morning and his wife will take over for him later, plus Mr. Pucey said he would try to make it this morning, but he was uncertain. We have more volunteers coming after lunch if we want a break."

Street Performers shh_su August 11 2007, 16:49:52 UTC
As she walked along River Road, Su grinned. It was quiet now, but soon the street performers would be arriving. There would be jugglers, carolers, house elf charmed origami, balloon animals, story tellers, and a clown doing face painting and caricatures.

Rabastan watched as the children told the older gentleman making balloon animals what they wanted. He was amazed by what he was able to fashion from the muggle balloons. He wondered where Miss Li had found him.

Amelia asked for a butterfly hat, a ballon that circled her head and had a balloon butterfly attached to the top, that she had seen other girls wearing around the festival area. Wally asked for a sword. There was a balloon scabard that went around his waist and a balloon sword to go inside it.

Balloons procured, the kids next wanted to get in line to have their faces painted. Rabastan nodded and queued up once again.

Things looked ready to go at the performance area. Some members of the dance acrobatic troupe were around, warming up. Su checked the performance schedule, pleased at the variety of acts they had found. She was looking forward to seeing the Shakespeare troupe's version of Love's Labour's Lost, and the flamenco dance troupe following that was sure to be excellent. There was a Scottish folk group, an Irish Gaelic harp player, and even Beijing Opera. Su was delighted at how many Stoatshead Hill residents would be performing as well.

Angelina headed down to the Arts Fest and found herself close to the performance area. It looked like they'd got quite a line-up for the festival. She even noticed that many of the local residents would be performing.

Taking out a book on Quidditch history, Angelina settled down and decided she'd just spend some time there and see what might come her way.

Outside the theatre tent, there were a group of young men laughing doing some sort of dance. One conjured a rose and stuck it between his teeth then started dancing with one of the others. Kingsley just rolled his eyes. Must have been those flamenco dancers that just finished. He saw them last night, in the Street Performers area giving impromptu lessons to a group of people of all ages.
