RP: Fire Can be Deadly

Jul 17, 2007 20:45

Date: 17 July 2005
Characters: Lisa Turpin, Marietta Edgecombe, Terry Boot
Location: The Department of Mysteries
Status: Private.
Summary: A typical day at the Department of Mysteries winds down with a floo installation, and Marietta and Lisa run into each other for the first time since Hogwarts.
Completion: Incomplete.

Lisa had been rather emphatically against installing a floo fireplace in the Department of Mysteries at all, but the Minister had seemed a bit peeved at her vehement protests, and she supposed the idea wasn't an utter disaster in retrospect. At the very least should an enemy have the misfortune to attempt to enter the building unauthorized, she'd have them very neatly trapped (and possibly dismembered- she hadn't quite decided.) Floo was very easily monitored, and she supposed that for the time being it was important that civilians be able to transport themselves to the only magical regulatory department currently funded in Britain.

After Anthony had completed his construction, the building had been cleaned to within an inch of its life: buffed limestone lined every inch of floor (oh, how she longed for the previous Ministry's budget- the old Department had used marble-) paired with walls of deep burgundy trimmed with a white so white it nearly glowed. Nothing at all of the building was visible from the outside, nor from the small room in which the Head of the Department was currently standing, fussing with the small bit of hair at the nape of her neck that had impetuously escaped from its bun.

There were no chairs in the front hall, or anything resembling a reception desk. Merely Lisa, a shoulder propped impatiently against one wall, in simple black slacks and a grey jacket, next to a white door flanked by two small mirrors. The fireplace she'd had hastily installed stood just to the left of the entrance. She merely wanted to make sure that everything was fine on the way out the door, then she'd leave it to Terry- who was late, of course, but she'd accounted for that. Idly, she wondered who on earth was staffing the Floo Regulation these days- and found it no small bit of amusing that that one was one of the Departments they'd managed to fund.
