Parvati made her way to the Bonnet, Bandana, Basket and Broom race after asking a few vaguely familiar people for directions. She was counting on seeing Lavender there, perhaps they could watch it together? The first thing she did was to hand over her scarf,

"Parvati!" Lavender waved as she spotted her friend, grinning as she made her way over to where Parvati was sitting on a blanket.

"Hey, you," she said, setting herself down next to Parvati. "You here by yourself?"

Parvati grinned as she heard Lavender call her name, waving in response.

"Not any more," she said, giving Lavender a one-armed hug. "But I spent a bit of time earlier with Dean. He'll be racing soon, I think."

"Oh, Dean's racing, is he?" Lavender raised her eyebrows, intrigued by that. "Does that mean you've put in a basket? Ron's racing, too, so I've been making a picnic for us. I've just got to hope that King Weasley gets my hat!"

She looked over to where the bonnets and scarves and things were put up, mouth hanging open slightly as she saw a wizard strip off and offer up his shirt. "Oh my."

"Of course," Parvati said, "I cooked with him in mind, too, so fingers crossed, eh? Not that anyone else will be in any great hurry to grab my er...basket."

She heard Lavender's intake of breath and turned to follow her gaze. Eyes widening, she said,"Amost makes you want to grab a broomstick, doesn't it?"

Lavender smiled, playfully nudging her friend. "Well, it sounds like Dean wants to grab your 'basket'. Things are going well with you two?"

She bit her lip, not having expected anyone to strip off. "I'd rather cheer for Ron," she said firmly.

"Yeah," she said, blushing and thinking about the other night's unexpected 'sleepover.' "Really well. Progressing nicely."

She grinned at Lavender's fierce loyalty. "Well, I did say 'almost', didn't I? Anyway, it makes the waiting for the race to start more enjoyable, and better him than Hagrid, eh?"

She sighed, leaning back on her arms and lifting her face up to the sunlight. "Feels great to be out like this, doesn't it? Sunlight doesn't feel quite the same when you're running."

"Hmm. You've got a good point there. Of course, I know who I'd rather see shirtless," Lavender said with a wink. She smiled, looking up at the surprisingly blue sky. "Yeah, it's nice to have a bit of sunshine. It's a good day for Quidditch."

She paused, then looked at Parvati. "So who d'you think'll finish first out of our two?" she asked curiously. "Ron or Dean?"

"And I know my preference for shirtless men, too," she added, feeling the need to proclaim her loyalty to Dean. "Not as fond of freckles or pale skin these days. Especially after the other night..."

"Don't know," she said in response to Lavender's question. "Ron's strengths lie in his arms, right, with the guarding? Dean was a chaser, so he's fast, but Ron's got that competitive streak and Dean's fairly laid back, so you have to take personality into consideration. Of course, I'd put my money on Dean any day. Just because he's mine and can do no wrong in my eyes."

Lavender glanced over to the course, hoping Ron wouldn't be too nervous before the race because his nerves had been a big weakness at school. "I suppose they've both got their strengths." She smiled slyly. "Care to put a bet on it? Loser has to cook dinner for the winner some time?"

Parvati grinned, feeling a wave of excitement going over her. This was great, this was like school, except all those nasty raging hormones were gone, and there were no teachers to keep you in line and the blokes were now men and absolutely gorgeous, and...Merlin, she loved Quidditch.

"You're on," she said, crossing her fingers and wondering if a badly off-key round of 'Weasley is our King' would slow Ron down.

"Great," Lavender said with a grin, shaking hands with Parvati to seal the bet and feeling almost giddy about it. This was so much fun! There were lots of people about and the sun was shining and Lavender was thoroughly looking forward to the picnic later.

She pouted, trying not to giggle. "My boyfriend is so going to beat your boyfriend."

Parvati wasn't quite sure how to respond. Was Dean her boyfriend? They had never discussed it in specifics, but that was how she thought of him in her mind. And surely, after all the things they had done together..."

"You wish," she said, winking.

"Oh, look," she added, spotting Padma out of the corner of her eye and trying to get her attention. "Padma's here."

Padma saw movement from the side and turned, looking over. She smiled when she saw Parvati and Lavender and made her way over.

"Hello, you two." She grinned and hugged her sister before hugging Lavender. "How are you today?"

Parvati hugged her sister, thinking that now her day was perfect. "I'm great, actually. Sunshine, fresh air and fit blokes on broomsticks. What more could you ask?"

"Ice cream," Lavender supplied. "Mmm. I could really fancy a big bowl of chocolate ice cream right about now." She'd been thinking too much about ice cream since last weekend when she'd bought some after leaving the flat to avoid Harry and Ron's first conversation following a month of not talking.

She grinned at Padma. "Hi, Padma! You look amazing today."
