Romilda had been keeping her back ache at bay by walking. The longer she stood and kept moving, the longer the pain stayed away. She had taken to walking along the river early of a morning. This morning she was coming back from the bakery to pick up some fresh bread. She wanted the boys to have some nice fresh toast and marmalade for breakfast.

The smell of it wafted from her basket and made her hungry. Stopping for a moment, she caught her breath as she moved her basket from one hand to the other. The baby had kept her awake most of the night, kicking her low and constantly on her back. She tried to have words with the babe, but it wasn't listening.

She heard a splash from the river and turned. Walking a few steps, she peered around the corner of a bush. She spotted the clothes strewn along the edge and quickly heard the curses as someone surfaced from under the water. He seemed to be searching for something.

She was about to talk to him, but he quickly went back under the water. By the time he finally surfaced a little downstream, she was beginning to worry. "Is everything all right?" she asked, worried about him. "What on earth are you doing in there?"

She had a flashback to when Liam and Ben had been caught out in the middle of the river, and Cormac had rescued them. She hoped everything was all right with the man.

Greg shook water out of his hair as he got out of the river then looked up with surprise when he heard someone speak. He stared at the woman... the pregnant woman, his startled brain informed him... for a long moment, a slow blush creeping up his cheeks as he realised he was standing around in nothing but a pair of bathers.

"I... er... well, I'm fine. Kind of cold... but... uh, fine," he stammered, not really sure where to look and rather desperately wanting to either cover up or hide. "I'm... er, the vet. I was... just checking it out. Er, the river, that is. For... um, Grindylows."

He made himself stop babbling and blushed even more, feeling like a complete fool. Why was it that he could handle anything that came his way in the clinic with ease but get him even one foot outside the door and he turned into a bumbling idiot?

Romilda watched the fellow step out of the river, and shake the water from his hair. When he finally looked up at her, she saw his eyes drop to her belly. It was quickly followed by his stammering and the look of discomfort. He wasn't wearing much - only a small pair of swimming trunks, but she couldn't help the smirk on her face.

"Oh, no need to cover up on my account. You've got nothing to be ashamed of, and I've seen it all before," she added, trying not to laugh at him. He really didn't have anything to be ashamed of, although it had been a while since anyone had reacted like that around her.

She tried to listen to what he was saying under his embarrassment, and was interested. "You mean there might be animals in the river?" The fear rose in her eyes. "Aren't grindylows dangerous?" She couldn't remember. She had paid little attention to magical creatures in class, and was barely capable of keeping Colin's owl and the dog fed.

"Oh dear, my son nearly drowned in that river a few months ago. I can't begin to imagine there being grindlows. Oh my."

She could see he was still standing there, moving from one foot to the other. She swiped his towel from the seat and handed it to him. "Are you looking perhaps for this?" she asked with a smile. "I'm Romilda, by the way. Romilda Vane."
