Roger Davies and his crew had started work on the Prophet offices, and it was high time Rita paid Hermione a visit to discuss what sort of wards she'd like, and what kind of payment Hermione would expect. Of course, Rita had muggle money, and probably that would work well for her, but it was best to make sure.
She'd spoken to the girl at Gilderoy's hen night and agreed to drop by, but in the ensuing ruckus she just... hadn't. Gilderoy's drama had thrown off quite a few plans. After all, it wasn't everyday one had to deal with a heartbroken brother who wouldn't listen to sense and insisted upon believing his lover had left him. Caring took rather a lot out of Rita - they were muscles she didn't use too often - so she'd done rather little else these last two weeks.
Friday, though, and it was about time she made good on her promise to drop by. She rose early and dressed before it was time for the store to open, presuming that not having customers would make it easier for Hermione to concentrate on what was being said. Books were her full-time occupation, after all.
It was a rather pleasant walk in the early morning, so Rita didn't bother to apparate. There were summer flowers out, and she was as always acutely aware of them; perhaps a little distracted. The walk was certainly more meandering than purposeful. Perhaps she'd go some place where she wouldn't be seen (it wouldn't do to have people think she'd gone soft) and pick some on the way home.
It was almost nine-thirty when she reached Bookworm, and the day starting to warm. She knocked on the door of the shop and stepped back to wait.
