Mandy cast a glance out the window, pursing her lips in frustration. What silly, no good June weather! She'd been waiting since Sunday for a warm bright day to go and pick up Zach for a broomstick flight, but the rain showers and the mist coming and going weren't very tempting flying conditions.

And she missed him, hadn't really talked with him since the party on Saturday, and it felt odd that all those days had passed by without any Zach in them. He'd started his job this week too and she itched to know how he liked it. Strange after all the months he'd been gone, how it had taken so little to get into the habit of him again. Perhaps they'd both needed a breather after that talk on Friday, though. The party had been too soon after; hard to relax, hard to know the right things to say or do.

Although he had had the cheek to drink her Sangria. Mandy still had every intention of getting him back for that.

It seemed she'd have to wait for the broomstick ride as an excuse to knock on his door, so this afternoon she'd laid other plans. She gathered the stuff she'd bought, let herself out and walked down the two flights of stairs. She just wore an old pair of cut off denims and a T-shirt, she expected to get a bit dirty, after all.

Knocking on his door, she bit her lip uncertainly as she glanced down at the wooden flower box tucked under her arm, the bag of potting soil and the paper bag with daisies, ivy, lavender and poppies in it. She knew Zach liked those, the small, bright-pastel Siberian poppies, because they'd seen them together in a park some summers ago, and he'd smiled, saying they were the flowers he liked best of those his mum grew in her garden. The daisies were Mandy's own favourite, and she'd picked a couple of small lavender for the scent, and the ivy looked nice to fill in with green.

Mandy shifted on her bare feet as she heard him approach the door. She hoped Zach wouldn't find it a silly and pushy idea. It was a bit like giving him flowers, wasn't it? Did one give blokes flowers, anyway? Hell if she knew. She sighed, and gave him a shy grin as he opened the door, her face suddenly, uncomfortably warm.

"Hey," she said, clutching harder around the flower box. "Is it... are you busy, or? I... I've ... um. A present for you."
