Date: 8 June 2005 Characters: Roger Davies, Zacharias Smith Location: Lovegood Lane Status: Private Summary: A visit to Roger's workshop. Completion: Complete
Roger stood and moved to his desk, rooting through for a new pencil. He tended to hang onto them until they'd been worn down to the nub, and his current one, he thought as he peered at the stump in his hand, was past that point. He'd been working on some rough plans for a large and shiny desk, meant for Rita Skeeter's office at what would be the Daily Prophet offices.
He enjoyed taking the time on Friday afternoons to work on furniture plans. That way, even if the day or week had been stressful, he could end it with something he loved to do.
When he heard his name, he looked up and over to the entrance of the shop below. He grinned when he spotted Zach and lifted a hand.
"Up here," he called back, heading down the stairs to meet Zach, gesturing to the shop. "Welcome to my as-yet-unnamed shop. How've you been?"
Zach grinned and stepped forward to meet him, taking his hand in his. "I'm good, thanks." He looked around. "I like it. You've done well for yourself. I'm impressed."
He couldn't imagine running something like this. Hopefully that wasn't an entirely bad thing... but the responsibility, the stress. He wasn't sure he could handle something that big.
"Am I interrupting anything? If you're busy, I can stop by later?"
Roger smiled and shrugged at Zach's compliment. "I appreciate that, thanks," he said. "Feels good to build something, you know?"
"Nah, you aren't interrupting anything. You've caught me at that part of the day where I'm sort of winding down, so now's good. Pull up a work bench," he added, gesturing to a bench and low work table off to the side.
He sat across from Roger and wondered how he should start. "I've been thinking. And well, I spoke to Lupin today. I was actually... are you still looking for someone to help out around here? I figure you'll be working on the school, and aside from that, I can be of use other places. If I don't completely suck at it. In which case you're completely allowed to sack me." He smiled at the table, half afraid to look up.
