It had been a quiet day at home, which was really like any other, but Tracey still appreciated these few hours she could scrounge up to be alone. Violet was the purest joy in her life, but not even a saint could have the patience to deal with a rambunctious four-year-old all day long.

So, when Marcus took Violet out for their usual block of time, Tracey relished it. She cleaned the flat for the first time in a week. Vaccuuming had taken so much time, but it was really the first time she had been able to do it since the power had gone out, and anything was better than the muggle way. Charms tended to spread the dust everywhere. After that, she had made herself a simple dinner and gone to her desk to do some editing on her novel, which had taken up another chunk of time, but not as long as cleaning the flat. There was only so much of her own writing she could read before her eyes blurred.

When that happened, she retreated to her bath, soaking in the hot water and just relaxing. It was like this all the time. She couldn't remember the last time she'd had more than a few precious hours to herself, and all of those times, she had spent them cleaning and working. Well, the flat was as clean as she could make it, and the novel had nearly all the polish she could muster. Perhaps it was time to venture out and spend some time just for her.

Tracey frowned to herself and sank further into her bath, wetting her dark hair. Could she really do that? She had Violet afterall, and her first responsibility was to her, and Marcus seemed rather content with only taking her a few hours. Parenthood must have been easier when you could just hand the child off when you got bored of her.

The doorbell rang as she had just started to pout. She cursed softly and dragged herself out of the tub. She toweled off quickly and redressed in her blouse and jeans before going to the door. Tracey opened it only to be tackled by a little mudball that had streaks of light brown hair. "Mum! We went down to the river, and I caught a frog!"
