It was getting to be a rare thing for Julian Avery - businessman, budding blacksmith, private investigator, mediator and counsellor, husband-to-be, and proud kneazle-owner - to have a moment of free time. Yet greater miracles had happened, and Julian found himself in the forge offices with a moment to relax. There'd been a lull in the barrage of owls from Gilderoy concerning any number of wedding details, and his fire demon was... 'napping'. He savoured the quiet with a steaming cuppa, eyes closed in hopes of relieving the pressure behind them. It was possible he might have succeeded, but he would never know as there came a knock at the door.

He should have known. "Come," he called in weary patience.

It was Handy who entered, carrying the post. The elf looked about as enthused to see another parchment as Julian felt on the matter. The Gods must have taken pity on them both, however, as it turned out this missive wasn't about floral arrangements, catering, name changes, or the varying shades of green. He was so relieved, he might have kissed Slughorn if the man had been present.

... Then again, there would have been that mustache to contend with...

After reading, Julian considered his availability. It was hard to say how things would progress on the search for Carolyn, or demon-training. Still, he believed rather strongly in upholding most traditions. Even stronger, he believed Wizarding society was caught in a cultural fugue. It was about time everyone started coming to. Pulling parchment and quill to him, Julian snapped off a quick reply. He put it aside for the moment, waiting for the inevitable return of Holly Polly Midas and the second wave in wedding planning.

Some traditions were less gruelling than others.

Dear Horace,

Thank you for the inspired idea and my inclusion in it. Yes, I do believe the Old Slytherins need to regroup. We've gone too long without cohesion. Do expect me on the 19th, and let me know if there is some way in which I might assist.

I look forward to discussing the future, and perhaps a bit of business.

Julian R. Avery
