Having a new bakery and a chocolate shop was going to mean an actual effort to exercise. Wayne wasn't too fond of the 'e' word when it was done simply to keep weight off. He preferred flying, surfing, hiking, and any number of enjoyable activities that worked off energy without it being rigidly planned. His morning runs to wherever the road took him had basically stopped over the last few months, though, and he was going to start getting chubby if he didn't get off his lazy arse more ( ... )

Su jumped when she heard someone speaking to her. She looked up, hiccuping slightly, and wiped her eyes with the back of my hand. "I'm fine. After all, I'm the one who broke off the engagement. Did he have to show up here with his new fiancee, though, just to flaunt her and prove that I wasn't Chinese enough for him?" Su's voice faltered on her last few words, and she started crying again. Part of her knew that she was being completely illogical. She was over David, why was she crying? But somehow it still hurt, and so she was rambling at this poor stranger who was probably about to run the other way and... Su gave a choking sob and buried her face in her hands again.

Well, then. Wayne blinked and took a step back, not at all sure how to handle a crying woman. He wasn't good at this shite, but she'd looked upset, and he couldn't just run by like he'd not seen her. Bollocks.

"If you broke it off, why do you care if he doesn't think you're, uh, Chinese enough for him?" Wayne asked. "'sides, he's obviously a bastard if he feels a need to flaunt anyone. Probably just angry that he lost a gorgeous bird like you, so he wanted to upset you. If so, looks like he did it, so maybe you should dry your eyes and remember that you got rid of the rubbish and now he's some other woman's problem."

He shrugged. "Don't know much about it, of course, but it seems silly to waste time crying over something you didn't even want, especially when the bloke sounds like such an immature tosser."

Su looked up again, realizing that the bloke standing near the bench was looking distinctly panicked. She took a deep breath, trying to calm down, and rubbed her eyes again before pawing through her purse in search of tissues. Finding some, Su wiped her eyes again and blew her nose before responding.

"He's a bastard now, but he wasn't then. I loved him. But he came all the way to England just to show me my replacement. I don't understand how my parents could arrange a marriage to someone like that." Su shook her head sadly, sniffling slightly. Her eyes were hot and swollen, and she was wishing for something cool to put on them. She rubbed her temples; all that crying had given her a headache, and this strange man being so damn sensible wasn't helping.
