Su awoke early on Saturday. She was in an excellent mood after having pleasant dreams about a certain upstairs neighbor. The dreams had been rather chaste--she and Lee were cuddling on her couch--but they made her smile upon waking. She sang as she showered and hummed while making a quick breakfast in her now-fully-functioning kitchen. Getting dressed in linen trousers and a white jumper, Su decided a morning walk was in order. Perhaps she would stop by that new bakery and get some muffins or something.

She was approaching the business district, outside the Five Alarm, when she glanced to her right and saw a familiar face. Su froze, heart thumping. What was he doing in Stoatshead Hill? She hadn't seen David Chen since she broke off their engagement shortly before coming to England. Su prayed that he wouldn't notice her, but the thought had no sooner crossed her mind then he turned away from the pub and saw her, his eyes widening in recognition before he crossed the street and approached her.

"David." Su nodded, voice dry and expressionless.

"Su. How have you been? It seems England agrees with you--you've gained quite a bit of weight since leaving Shanghai. But then you were always too skinny back then. Now you're almost normal."

Su blinked, trying not to let her hurt show. "I've been well. I'm working at the Ministry now. It's been good." She decided to let the comments about her appearance slide. "What are you doing in England?"

"The Ministry?" David sneered slightly. "Yes, I heard the entire government had practically been destroyed. In it's current state, I imagine even you would be useful. I'm amazed you're staying here, though. This town is so...shabby." He shuddered. "As for me, I'm on vacation." Su stared at him, surprised. David worked for Gringotts and was rather obsessed with his career, determined to get ahead, and rarely used his vacation time. "I've been offered a position at Goldman Sachs' Shanghai office. They needed an arithmancer on the Wizarding side, and so they head-hunted me. I've been offered quite the signing bonus, so I decided to take a little vacation before I begin." He smirked.

Su took a deep breath, trying very hard to be mature about this. "Congratulations, David, that's wonderful news." How had he changed so much in the few months since she had left Shanghai? Or had David always been this smarmy and she just hadn't noticed?

David's reply was cut short as another voice intruded. A beautiful Chinese woman had just walked out of the Five Alarm and approached them. "I'm so sorry to have kept you waiting, love."

David's entire demeanor changed, and he smiled softly. "It's no problem, my darling. Let me introduce you to Su Li, an old friend. Su, this is Mei, my fiancee."

Su felt as if she had been punched in the stomach. Pride alone kept a smile on her face as she made inane chit-chat with the other woman. Who, as it turned out, was kind and polite as well as beautiful. Finally David tired of showing off and turned to Mei. "Well, darling, we'd best be off. Lots to do before we head back to Shanghai next week." He turned to Su. "We're staying at the Savoy, it's a charming place. Have you been?" At her shake of the head, he commented, "No, thought not." They said their goodbyes, and apparated away.

Feeling her legs about to give way, Su blindly made her way to the bench and sat down, hard. She pulled her knees up to her chest and let the tears come, too upset to care that she was bawling in one of the most public places in Stoatshead. That bastard.
