Eleanor was lying in bed with a book when the owl came. She tossed back the blankets and padded to the window to let it inside. She wasn't sure what to think when she read Ernie's letter. She was glad that he seemed to be in much better spirits, and it was good to know when she could expect him back. However, she was feeling very confused for the most part. Her mind was swimming with questions, though she supposed that with the little she already knew about Ernie's family, and the information in the letter, she could put the pieces together. She really didn't like where her mind was leading her. Good Merlin, did Ernie's mother expect him to marry the woman of her choosing and stay there for good?

With a furrowed brow, Eleanor made her way to her desk, pulling out a sheet of parchment as she mulled Ernie's letter over. Shaking her head slightly, she sat down and began to write.

Dear Ernie,

You don't have to apologise, really. I don't mind that you can't write often if it means you get home faster. Rose is always busy studying, and it's been rather boring here without you.

Gitta sounds lovely. It is a shame that she had to run away to be with her boyfriend. I suppose I forget sometimes that there are still a lot of wizards out there that have a very antiquated ideas about running their children's lives well into adulthood.

I'm glad that you've figured out what you want to do. You are entitled to your own life. Though, I reckon your mother wouldn't appreicate my saying so. I hope your mother won't be very upset about it.

Of course I wasn't appalled by your last letter. I was just happy to hear from you. I can't wait until you're home, it will be good to see you again. I've been keeping busy, but I could use a nice distraction. Which reminds me, I have a surprise for you when you get back. I hope you like it.

Fondly,
Eleanor

She still had questions, but she didn't want to burden him with those now. Her curiosity would hold until he was home again.
