He'd been glancing around while he spoke. The place was empty.

"I'd suggest that you check the kitchen, but you came that way, so I'm assuming he wasn't taking over the floor or having a cup of tea." She frowned thoughtfully and tried to think where he might go.

He leaned up against a shelf, arms crossed loosely. "Cedric ain't that complicated, although he can seem like it with the 99 things he keeps in the air at once. And yeah, he wasn't in the kitchen. I'm hoping he's just sitting out somewhere, reading his papers -- though it's a little rainy. Man, doesn't the sun ever shine in this country?"

"It does shine quite a lot. You just need to be alert enough to enjoy those many moments during the day, in between the clouds and the rain," she said with a smile. "It's really not that bad right now. October and November are far worse in terms of rainfall."

He was quiet a moment, composing thoughts and watching Hermione work. "There are layers to Cedric because he thinks about things," he said finally. "He knows that life's not black-and-white, which sounds obvious, but more people say they understand that than do. He sees so many possibilities, and weighs people's feelings so much, he has a hard time cutting to the chase. Me, I'm a little more blunt.
"You're dating two guys, Hermione. They both seem decent sorts, and I know at least one of 'em's so crazy about you he can't see straight. And I know you were pretty damn worried about him when he was sick." Jeff kept to himself his observations about Cedric and Hermione's body language when they were together, but he'd been watching, and was disquieted. "Can't speak to the feelings of Roger. But where are you in all of it? And yeah, I've heard Cedric's take -- several times. I want to hear yours ( ... )
