Date: 18th February 2005
Characters: Horace Slughorn
Location: In his new home
Status: Private
Summary: Horace owls Neville and Hermione about his herbological problem
Completion: Complete

Horace had really meant to deal with more business after his lunch with Ollivander, but an owl from a friend in Glasgow took hinm away for a few days. During his trip he ran into an old acquaintance from the wizarding customs service, and heard that Neville Longbottom was back in the country. As soon as he was home he owled Neville and Hermione:

Owl to Neville
Neville Longbottom,
Stoatshead Hill

Dear Mr. Longbottom,

Ollivander has suggested that you might be interested in some muggle herbological equipment I've found in my new home; lights, heating, and tanks in which plants seem to grow very well, some sacks of fertiliser, etc. I'm not sure what the plants are, and nobody I've asked seems to know anything about them, but the equipment seems to be good - there's a positive forest growing there! Possibly you can make some use of it, if it can be adapted to magical species.

If it's convenient for you, perhaps you could call in for a sherry and take a look tomorrow evening, say around seven.

Regards,

Horace Slughorn

PS: I'm also inviting Miss Granger, since a muggle-born witch may know more about these plants and the equipment. You two know each other, of course.

Owl to Hermione
Hermione Granger,
Stoatshead Hill

Dear Miss Granger,

Ollivander has suggested that you be able to advise me on some muggle herbological equipment I've found in my new home; lights, heating, and tanks in which plants seem to grow very well, some sacks of fertiliser, etc.. I'm not sure what the plants are, and nobody I've asked seems to know anything about them, but both Ollivander and I think that they might be something a muggle-born witch would know about.

If it's convenient for you, perhaps you could call in for a sherry and take a look tomorrow evening, say around seven.

Regards,

Horace Slughorn

PS: I'm also inviting Mr. Longbottom, since I think that a herbologist may be able to make use of the equipment, if it can be adapted to magical species. You two know each other, of course.
