After leaving Percy's house, it had been a wise decision to walk home. Hermione had had a few too many glasses of wine to safely Apparate, she expected. She was just tipsy, fortunately, and aware enough of her surroundings to be cautious. Her cardigan wasn't exceptionally warm but a charm took care of that problem as did the wine ( ... )

He sat on the stool and was drumming his fingers lightly against the side of his leg to the music when he heard the knock. He glanced to his left and saw her through the glass door. The double-take was almost imperceptible.

She was smiling, and wearing a dress. Shouldn't have surprised him; she'd been at a dinner party, but still, he'd not seen her in a dress before. It was blue, and some kind of...other color that he couldn't name, but it looked nice with her hair. The sweater on top did nothing to take away from how the dress looked on her, and as he got up and went to the door, he swallowed.

"Hey." he smiled and opened the door. She stepped inside. "You, ah," he cleared his throat. "You look good. Did you have fun at the party?"

"Hey," she said, looking up at him. He smelled nice, she realized, leaning forward slightly to discretely sniff. Her eyes widened slightly when she realized what she was doing, and she blushed as she ducked her head to collect herself.

"Thank you, Roger." She looked up at his compliment and smiled widely. "I'm really not used to wearing a dress at all, but I quite love this one. It's the color, I think." She nodded and shook her head slightly as the former action caused her to wobble just a bit.

"The party was...well, I'd say it was interesting but it was actually rather dreadful. I mean, it was lovely and the food was good, of course, but I do hate awkward social encounters," she said, unbuttoning her cardigan and shrugging it off. "I spent most the evening drinking a rather delicious wine. How are you?"

She leaned forward and breathed in and he swallowed again, not sure what she was doing. But the proximity made him very aware of her scent. She smelled as good as she looked, but she usually did. This time, he also caught the scent of whatever wine she'd had with dinner. He met her eyes when she pulled back, and his mouth quirked up into a small grin ( ... )

"I probably plotted to take over the world, of course," she said matter-of-factly. "I'd have had a top crew, of course, and we've have robbed from the rich and given to the poor, like that Robin Hood bloke only we'd have done so at sea ( ... )

She was silent for a while and still hadn't responded when she sat. He wasn't sure if he wanted her to; he'd not expected the conversation to move in this direction. He shouldn't have explained his and Viktor's conversation, should have left it superficial. But she was perceptive and had picked up something, and at that point he hadn't wanted to lie or gloss over it. And she was just a little drunk anyway, so maybe she'd simply not take any of this seriously tomorrow. He didn't think so, though. So he stoked the fire and waited ( ... )

She listened and nodded. "You've lost someone you love," she said. They'd never really discussed it, but it was something she'd figured out fairly soon after they met. "And you've done horrible things during the war, as have many of us. It'll take time for you to feel ready for more complicated things, I imagine ( ... )

"Yeah." He looked up at her, knowing that he'd never told her anything about Bryna, or anything about what he'd done during the war. But it was something he supposed she'd also picked up on, from their conversations before. Maybe he could tell her more about it, at some point. Keeping things inside the way he was wasn't helping him to move on at all ( ... )
