After leaving Percy's house, it had been a wise decision to walk home. Hermione had had a few too many glasses of wine to safely Apparate, she expected. She was just tipsy, fortunately, and aware enough of her surroundings to be cautious. Her cardigan wasn't exceptionally warm but a charm took care of that problem as did the wine ( ... )

He sat on the stool and was drumming his fingers lightly against the side of his leg to the music when he heard the knock. He glanced to his left and saw her through the glass door. The double-take was almost imperceptible.

She was smiling, and wearing a dress. Shouldn't have surprised him; she'd been at a dinner party, but still, he'd not seen her in a dress before. It was blue, and some kind of...other color that he couldn't name, but it looked nice with her hair. The sweater on top did nothing to take away from how the dress looked on her, and as he got up and went to the door, he swallowed.

"Hey." he smiled and opened the door. She stepped inside. "You, ah," he cleared his throat. "You look good. Did you have fun at the party?"

"Hey," she said, looking up at him. He smelled nice, she realized, leaning forward slightly to discretely sniff. Her eyes widened slightly when she realized what she was doing, and she blushed as she ducked her head to collect herself.

"Thank you, Roger." She looked up at his compliment and smiled widely. "I'm really not used to wearing a dress at all, but I quite love this one. It's the color, I think." She nodded and shook her head slightly as the former action caused her to wobble just a bit.

"The party was...well, I'd say it was interesting but it was actually rather dreadful. I mean, it was lovely and the food was good, of course, but I do hate awkward social encounters," she said, unbuttoning her cardigan and shrugging it off. "I spent most the evening drinking a rather delicious wine. How are you?"

She leaned forward and breathed in and he swallowed again, not sure what she was doing. But the proximity made him very aware of her scent. She smelled as good as she looked, but she usually did. This time, he also caught the scent of whatever wine she'd had with dinner. He met her eyes when she pulled back, and his mouth quirked up into a small grin ( ... )

"I like this shade of blue a lot," she said, blinking as she realized just how silly she sounded. That coupled with his hands on her shoulders made her mind a little unclear ( ... )

"Nah, I'm sure you weren't horrid," he said. "Terry's alright. I met Morag last week for the first time in years, and she's okay." He couldn't quite see the two of them getting along, though. He shrugged ( ... )

"I never get drunk," she whispered. "I used to not even drink alcohol at all unless it was a glass of wine on very rare occasions. Now, I'm drinking wine with dinner more often. Fortunately, I can have three glasses before I start to feel all warm and such. Being drunk, though, means you're no longer in control of yourself, and I'd never want that ( ... )

He chuckled softly and reached over to run a hand down her arm. "You're a lightweight," he told her lightly. "Takes longer for me, if I wanted to get really drunk. But I don't like feeling helpless or out of control, either," he agreed ( ... )

Why was he touching her arm? Hermione looked down and blinked, watching his hand slide down her arm. It took her a moment to realize he was talking. "I am not," she defended, looking back up at him and sticking her tongue out. "It takes three glasses for me to even start to feel tipsy. I can drink about five before I stop due to not knowing if the drunk part will come with another glass. Ron gets pissed after two, it seems."

"Misunderstood? How so?" she asked curiously. She sat on a stool and leaned forward, resting her arms against the counter and focusing on him. Her eyes suddenly widened when she realized what protective seemed to insinuate then she blushed. "Oh, uh, he thought you and I...I mean, um, that you were living with me in a with me sense?" She cleared her throat and shifted. "Yes, I can see where that was certainly a misunderstanding and probably extremely awkward for you. I'm glad that you both managed to get that sorted out. And I speak very highly of him, too ( ... )

He laughed when she poked out her tongue, enjoying her, and couldn't resist teasing more. "Five? Really? You must've been a sailor in a past life."

"Er, yeah." He cleared his throat. "I guess it sounded that way to him at first, that it was a with you type deal. I straightened it out quickly," he added hastily, feeling the blood creep up his neck into his cheeks. "It was awkward, but not a big deal. He was mainly worried that if it was like that, that I wasn't treating you well. Like I said, he was just concerned, which I can appreciate. It's fine now, though ( ... )

"Maybe I was," she said, becoming thoughtful. "I do love the water, after all, though I do find it an issue to smell bad, so perhaps not?" She grinned. "Maybe I was really an evil pirate who always smelled nice and did all sorts of wicked things ( ... )

"Yeah, I can see you as a pirate," he decided, grinning. "And you'd have run a tight ship. But I wonder what sort of wicked things you got up to, back then."

He looked over at her as she stammered out an apology. What could she possibly have to be sorry about? "It wasn't uncomfortable, not in that way. I don't think there are many blokes who'd feel weird being, ah...romantically associated with a woman like you," he said quietly. "It was mainly that when we both realised the misunderstanding, we thought about how embarrassed, and possibly upset, you'd be if you'd heard us. I didn't mean to give the wrong impression, you see, and I figured you'd have been more than a bit uncomfortable when you'd been nothing but friendly towards me ( ... )
