Inside the kitchen, Molly dropped her pan in excitement. "Charlie? Darling? Is that you, dear?" She picked up the pan and discarded it to the table, wiping her hands on her apron and trotting into the sitting room to find Charlie shrugging out of his coat. "Love! Come in! Look at you!" Molly moved toward him, arms open. "Mind your boots, dear," she said, giving him a hug. "This carpet doesn't take well to mud, you see."

Charlie rolled his eyes at his Mum. Predictable as ever, she was. And he wouldn't have her any other way.

"Good to see you, Mum," he said, reluctant to relase her from the hug. When he did, he yanked his boots off and tossed them on the mat near the entrance.

"It smells fantastic in here. I haven't had much more than soup and toasted cheese lately. What's for dinner?"

"Soup and toasted cheese?" Molly gasped, utterly incredulous. "Charlie! Break a mother's heart, how about?" She patted his arm and led him to the kitchen. "There will certainly be no toasted cheese at this table, I'll have you know. I've got chicken breast, and pudding, and potatoes, and what all. Percy gave me these sort of tokens you trade in for food and I'm afraid I've gone a bit mad with them. Likely it's besides the point, but I can't help it, really. One token gets you an entire chicken! I'd never heard of such a thing!"

She shooed Charlie toward a spot at the table. "You'll have a cup, of course, and please, dear, don't even tell me what ridiculousness you're passing off as tea these days. You know how I am; my Barry's or nothing at all." Molly turned to the stove where a kettle was steaming silently. She summoned two mugs from the cupboard and filled them. "Sugar for you, darling? Or have you grown out of that sweet tooth?"

"No sugar these days, thanks," said Charlie, taking his mug and having a seat at the table.

He made a mental note to owl Percy a quick thanks for keeping Mum's cupboard stocked. That was another relationship he'd need to rebuild, as he hadn't been here when the rest of the family had mended that fence.

"So, Mum, what's keeping you busy these days? I know you've been doing some planning for the Burrow, and I'd like to be involved in that. What's the next step?"
