Jack glanced upwards from his desk as the owl pecked at the window impatiently, looking as if it had travelled a hundred miles to get here. He unlocked the window and the bird practically fell through, its small chest heaving as Jack set water and food in front of it hurriedly, untying the letter from its messenger pouch and scanning the contents.

A few moments later, he was sat back at his desk, drafting a reply.

Professor,

It's very good to hear from you again. How was hiding How have the last few years been treating you? Well, I hope?

I'm glad to hear that you'll be back in Britain, and in Stoatshead soon. As for your inquiries into a suitable property, I have several people that I can contact to look for me by proxy - my work schedule is full to burst busy at the moment, but I can always take some time out for an old teacher. If I do find a place that I think will suit your needs, my falcon Kali-Ma will deliver a letter to you. The condition of some of the claims isn't actually that good bad, although the ones in best repair are quickly disappearing. If one is to be claimed on your behalf, I'd need a letter from you giving me permission to do so - since I already have a claim, it might be perceived as bad form for me to take another. I'll assess what renovations will be required, and will also contact you thusly. May I contact Mr. Ollivander on your behalf? Since he knows you well, it's likely that he will know what the hell you're after be more attuned to your specific needs than I am, although I'm sure Miss Weasley will be able to assist in lieu of his aid.

Kind regards,

Jack Sloper, Carpentry & Construction.

Allowing the owl time to rest for a while before making the journey back, Jack summoned Kali to him, tying the letter to her scaled feet and sending her into flight.

Horace read Jack's reply, and the other message he'd received from Ollivander, and decided that Ollivander's suggestion was probably the best answer. He put quill to parchment accordingly

Dear Mr. Sloper,

Mr. Ollivander has suggested that considering my specialised needs re. potions brewing etc. it would probably be best to wait until I've got there, which will hopefully be on Sunday. He's offered to let me stay in his spare room until I find something more suitable, which does give me a little breathing-space. Of course any properties you spot in the meantime would be of interest - as I said in my previous message, a modest house or cottage with an explosion-proof bunker a room suitable for potions work, preferably in easy reach of the business area, would meet my needs admirably.

You do, of course, have my permission to claim a suitable building if something that seems particularly suitable is available, but given my needs it might be better to wait until I can see it for myself. If possible please contact me before committing to anything.

Out of interest, is anyone else doing potions work in the area? While I have no desire to set up as a general potions manufacturer, I think that I will be undertaking consultative work, the odd special order, things that might be beyond the range of the usual vendors.

With thanks,

Horace Slughorn
