His reply to Olivander sent, Horace Slughorn inked his quill and composed a more business-like note to Jack Sloper.

Plaza Hotel,
Monte Carlo

My Dear Sloper,

I hope that you are well, and recovered from your wounds.

As you may possibly have heard, I'm hoping to return to Britain shortly, and seek a new home in the Stoatstead Hill area. My old friend Ollivander tells me that you are familiar with the town and its properties, and can restore damaged buildings.

While I was not planning to resume my work with potions, it's always possible that some need might arise; Ollivander has suggested that I open a specialist potion shop, but to be honest I would prefer not to engage in commerce on an everyday basis. I'm therefore thinking in terms of a residential building with the space for a small potions laboratory, which would let me undertake an occasional private commission if such circumstances arose. Ollivander suggests a commercial location North of the river; while easy access to the commercial district would be useful, especially in view of my infirmity, I would prefer not to present myself primarily as a tradesman business - accordingly, I feel that the ideal property might perhaps be a small house or cottage with an adjoining shop, or with a suitable laboratory building behind it, if you know of such a place. Any suggestions you might have in this respect would be more than welcome.

If all goes well I hope to be back in Britain in a week to ten days - if you can't make a suitable property available at that point I should be able to stay with my dear friend Ollivander for a brief period, but I would prefer not to impose on his hospitality longer than I have to.

Thanking you in anticipation,

I am,
Yours faithfully
Horace Slughorn

Horace re-read the scroll and decided that it would do. If Sloper really chose to busy himself with manual labour - an odd idea for a wizard - he was perfectly happy to use his services. And if all else failed Ollivander was probably a perfectly adequate host. He set off for the commercial owlery, reluctant to wait for his own owl to return.
