Shortly before leaving for the day, Ernie finally gathered enough courage to go and talk to Lisa. He honestly should have done it...well, Christmas night would have been the best time, he reckoned. Or anytime in the week that followed. Or New Year's Day. Or yesterday. But he really couldn't put it off any longer.
For everyone's sakes, he needed to tell Lisa. Leaving the mound of paperwork on his desk, he walked down the corridor. Her door was open and he knocked on the doorframe, not wanting to disturb her by barging in. Yes, because what you're about to tell her won't disturb her.
Lisa looked up from what she was doing and motioned for him to come in. Too keyed up to sit, he paced around a bit. "Um...er...I need to speak with you...about Christmas." That was as good a place as any to start.
