It had been five days since they had seen or spoken with Millicent, and Gilderoy was too anxious to be still. He didn’t know if Ella had eaten, if Millicent was okay, if they were even alive. “Are you ready yet?” he asked Julian impatiently. The man could really take his time getting dressed some days.
Knobby had taken to the sewing and trimming like a natural, so he could leave her with that to do while he went out.
They decided they would go over to Millicent’s together. Sure, two against one were rather uneven odds, but this wasn’t about fairness, it was about the welfare of a little girl and her mother. Both of whom Gilderoy had come to care for immensely.
“I’m worried,” he said, shoving his hands into his pockets. “She’s so... she... you know, I’ve seen it before. So many times. Living in that particular ward, I had the unfortunate opportunity to see more than my share of potions addiction cases come through, and most of them did not get the same happy ending that I experienced. Many of them never regained any memories after they left. Some lost their ability to learn completely. I just don’t want to see that happen to her. She’s my... my friend, if nothing else.”
After a brief kiss for courage, Gilderoy led them out of the shop and down Alpha.
