When Katie had first opened the package from Theo her first thoughts had been more along the lines of viciously swearing than being grateful for the beautiful gloves. While the two of them were friendly, she certainly hadn't realized that a gift would be appropriate.

She actually felt a little uncomfortable accepting them. The chocolates on her birthday had seemed extravagant, and while she loved the gloves, they were even worse. Especially since she had nothing for him in return. But it would be beyond rude to return them, and he had meant well.

It wasn't as if she had anything just lying around the flat that Theo would appreciate, and she didn't have the funds, or the time at this late date, to run out and buy something appropriate - because for him she was fairly sure that would be higher end, especially considering the lovely gloves. And she didn't know him well enough to know what would be a more thoughtful gift, outside of managing to find a way to acquire some of the stone he was trying to arrange for from France.

Katie had to content herself with writing a reply, choosing one of the decorative cards she had bought.

Theo,

Thank you so much for the thoughtful gift - I've been meaning to buy myself some gloves for awhile now. However, you know you didn't have to send anything, and I feel bad I have nothing proper to give you in return.

I can only send my gratitude, and my best wishes for a good holiday. I hope you have a merry Christmas, however you are spending it.

Sincerely,
Katie
